When should I let my kids go to the reserve team ?
Since a young player can get a full time contract at 17,will it be better to take him to the reserve team to get higher training courses?Or just leave him in the U20 untill he's 20?

I always look to promote to reserves if I feel the player has potential to succeed as soon as possible. Then I look to loan at about 19-21 or keep hold of them and play them in the cups. Hope this helps (a little)!

Like Alurny says the reserves is a step up from the under 18's so if you have someone special let him step up sooner so he is playing against better players.
From there it is a matter of decding whether to send him on loan or if oyu think he might get 5-10 games or appearances at least in the first team then keep him at the club.
If he goes on loan make sure the club he goes to promise that he will be valuable there, and that they aren't too low league wise to be a waste of time for the player.

Its all fine and dandy if you have the right coaches, but getting the best out of players involves a lot more.
*Good facilities
*Good Tutoring
*And timing their development
At age 17 - Move him to Reserves
At age 18 - Give him the odd run in First team matches and minor cups..always match their level to the opposition; be aware of burn-outs, these can happen if you continously play him against teams that are far above his level
At age 20 - Loan out to Championship
When he returns put him on rotation and see if he can fight his way through.
Its good to get a youth coach as well, ideally he should have high attributes for working with youngsters

hmm should add in there..if you are going to loan a player out..make sure he has the quality to play in their first team and get valuable match experience, and the quality of the side should match his attributes..no sense sending "kid cantona" to Gateshead for a loan spell.

also depends whut leauge u are in. in some u can have youngsters in junior leauge untill they are 20-21.
i have find that its way better to never loan out players couse i play in italy. i try sign them as young as possible and give them a few years in my youth team.i train them with 5 star coaches.
the match experience they get from youth team mathces are enough for them to stay ar high morale and therefore will increase steady . when they are 21-22 they get first team matches and subs at end of game if i think they have whut it takes. otherwise i sell them off for 24 month payments with 50% add ons.

Which is why you always need to check the quality of the teams you loan them out to. If the leagues the boys currently play in are good, then you should leave them there if your facilitiees are also top notch.
