Hello,
First time I post a tactic, but it has brought me good results with the teams(Valencia, Stal Dn) I have tested it. The problem with the "testing" is that I have never actually finished a season and this is the reason I posted it so you could test it. The reason I haven't finished a season is because i get bored . The only time I finished a season was when I did a holiday test with Stal Dn. In that test the team won the league, boardroom expectation was: fight bravely against relegation, and I only bought one player.
Now to the tactic. The tactic was created using ideas from the threads of Rashidi1(Creating tactics - reasoned approach) and Abramovic(AI tactical ideas).
The formation is a 4-4-2, with wingers on AMR/AML positions, with back-arrows to MR/ML positions.
The instructions are very simple. I mostly use Team Instructions. The individual instructions are Mentality(DCs, MCd), Closing Down (DCs, MCd, DR/DL) and Creative Freedom (For every position). Everything else is on Team Instructions.
These are the team instructions.
I don't really know what types of players you need to be effective, but the basics are:
The left FC should be quick and good dribbler(a bonus would be teamwork), the right FC should(but doesn't have to) be a good jumper/header, basically a tall target-man, although I don't use a target-man.
The wingers should be good at dribbling, because the instructions given to them are RWB often, and everything else on mixed. So they are there to beat their defender and cross when they have an opportunity.
The left MC is th defensive midfielder, but even he has forward runs mixed.
The DR/DL should have pace(depending on the league you are in), because they will get forward(FWR mixed).
For the DCs I think the usual jumping. For the left DC(he has lower Mentality, Closing Down) I think you need Acceleration more than pace(or for both defenders). At least I think so. This assumption comes from a game between Estonia and England, I was Estonia. In this game I got trashed 5-0, which isn't surprising, but what was surprising is that Crouch ran away from my defender who had 16 pace, but his acceleration was lower than Crouches.
The main tweaks I make are to Defensive Line and Tempo. And if I have a good team like Valencia I would play wider.
The instructions above are the Home instructions that I use for Stal Dn. But with Valencia I would use Defensive Line = Push Up. For away games I would tick Counter Attack, lower the tempo couple of clicks, and lower the defensive line couple of clicks. Although I would increase the defensive line during the game if the pressure is too high, but only to the point where the opponents striker cannot run behind my defense very often(if they do it you should lower the defensive line). If I don't create chances I would increase the tempo (not more than first notch of quick) and lower time wasting. If I was leading in the last minutes: 70+ lower tempo, increase time wasting to 12-13; 80+ increase time wasting to Often, and tempo to Slow.
The results so far for Valencia and Stal Dn:
I hope this tactic will give you good results.
Thx.

A attacking 4-4-2. Has brought me good results. Post #2
Sorry for this shameless bump, but I just wanted to know, from the people who tried it, how well did it work for you. I know I haven't shown more results, but it's because I haven't played fm2007 recently(waiting for fm2008 ).
So if anyone has tried it just replay, how bad/good was the tactic?

This is my formation of choice. I don't have back arrows however I actually employ sarrows forward on the AMR/AML.
Brought me great success with IFK Goteburg. 4 straight championships. I use this probably 80% of the time, only change for a tough away game when I adopt a standard 442 shape but still attacking.
