I am finding that my strikers are shooting straight at the goalkeeper...eight out of 10 shots go straight into the hands of the keeper...literally...now i dont mind when keeper saves an attempt and if he works for that save...but my strikers are offering him simple saves...and these are not long range shots...since i have put long shooting to rarely...90% of these shots are inside the penalty area and some of them inside the six yard box...
for example consider this:
Defoe shots attempted 41, on target 24, goals 4
Rooney 25, 19, 0
Tevez 6, 5, 1
Saha 6, 5, 0
Am i the only one who is facing problems???or is that the norm along with closing down?
I haven't noticed that to be honest. Closing down is my gripe, but if you are concerned that it is happening consistantly open a thread in the bugs forum and give plenty of details there.
Also try to save a game where it happens alot and send that to SI so they can have a gander at it.
Sometimes you need a bit more variety in the types of shots available..the better my side gets the more adventurous I'm becoming.. this is how i started off
Fulham 0 - 1 West Ham...we played a 4231Xmas tree, very tight deep running amcs..dominated possession absolutely, they hardly looked like threatening as we slapped them away, Bellamy scoring the crucial goal
Spurs 2 - 3 West Ham Away match, they have a good combo upfront in Berbatov and Bent, plenty of width good pace in the centre and lot of creativity. This was a dangerous team. So I decided to take the field with a 4132..a bit more defensive in orientation..
Played a normal dline pushed up got the goal, reduced width, slowed down tempo and reduced dline..they equalised. I got fed up and the slugmatch started..we scored, they scored and then we finally got the winner and held on to win. Brilliant match both having an equal no of chances and possession. What a derby should be..in this one I had a strong fast combo and a deep running MC, all three of them scored in this match.
West Ham 3 - 2 Liverpool A tough game without a doubt, pool were favorites only just. I decided to use the same 4132 formation which was good in Spurs..this time staying slightly below normal throughout the game, and employing the same strategy of having a strong support a fast with a creative MC in the centre willing to run and pass.
We score the first goal in the 2nd minute as we come off a counter, the strong man cole holding up then laying off to Bellamy who goes to score against his former club.. Then off a free-kick Liverpool score by only making 3 passes to Stevie G, I'm fuming.
They get their second by pulling my side around with Babel knicking it.. I push up my dline again and go looking to add pressure where i can. Mascherano buckles under pressure loses possession bellamy scores and then the added pressure shows as bellamy finishes with another we win 3-2
We lose Bellamy to injury, now the boys are more confident, I switch to a 343! for the visit to M'boro. Without Bellamy we still manage to win 3-0 and keep a clean sheet finally.
The key here is to make as many differernt kinds of attack patterns with either players or small changes in instructions...
Thanks a lot...will try the suggestions...i always thought that players need time to settle down with a tactic and frequently changing it will affect the performance...
I am almost satisfied with the closing down problem...my defenders are tackling well and making interceptions..though sometimes my wingers and fullbacks are a bit hesitant...it is the attack that i am now having problems with
Its not really a fix...if SI do think its a problem it will be a minor one.
So far I've played pretty well as WHam.. first 5 we've won straight. Pretty healthy goal scoring and in the last 3 matches I've become more adventuring by playing a 3 DCs with one DM.
In most of the formations that do ok I use a DM, I have a 4231 which is ok but it plays with 2 defensive minded MCs.
Its fairly simple. Ok this is what I do to the tee...it depends on what you have too, and west ham should win the premiership with this squad...
When you have a team, there will be some players who need to focus more on their efforts defending and the other attacking. Now lets decide what they need to do to work.
Assuming its a 4321 with 2 defensive MCs
The Defenders and the 2 MCs.
This is your defensive group should be on a neutral mentality. Lowest notch of normal. The MCs can be a bit higher but they should set on neutral.
The defensive minded MCs MUST be on normal mentality because normal mentality tells someone "Look don't leave the boys at the back on their own, you got to get a foot in". Good he knows his role...set closing down..I generally like it to be high.
I know this won't make sense and it still doesn't should close down high not max and tightmark work..it does and I use it for anyone on the wings.
The attacking group is on the same mentality (attacking) they close down around 15, the offensive minded MC maybe 10.
Fullbacks on tight and lowish closing down..dcs on specific marking and lowish closing down..its working fine.. I play around the normal defensive line zone
My CDs are doing fine...they are tackling when they are supposed...even making some intelligent last ditch tackles...they are also closing down normally 9.5 times out of ten...in 4 matches that i have played after fixing the tactics...i think they are only 4-5 instances where they backed up...that was immediately into the second half...
But i am still having problems with my strikers...i am creating chances...having at least 6-7 shots on target per game...and they are good chances...from inside the box...but am unable to score goals...rashidi what instructions have u given to ur strikers???
