Just played a few games on the Demo to see if the Target Men with the ball played to head are still as dominant as they were in 07.

Only played a few games with the system I tried but I have to say the defenders won alot more headers than my best "Jumping" Striker(Crouch).

Has anybody else tried to utilise the Good Heading Target Man yet? And if so did it turn out successful/unsuccessful?

In FM07 i found playing to a target mans head very effective.

In my experience the jumping stat was far more important than heading. I origionly tried to find strikers who were very tall, 6'7" or so . But this didn't seem to give as much of an advantage as i thought it would. A 6'0" defender could quite easily compete in the air.

Then in one of my lower league games i found a striker who was 5'11" tall but had good jumping stats (19) he won nearly everything i put into the box. In fm07 with a target man with high jumping stats he was regularly ending with stats of 22 out of 25 headers won.

So far on fm08 demo i have noticed a drop. Stats are more like winning 9 out of 13 headers. This may be an unfair comparison as i have not been able to find the same player as in the previous game.

I would suggest looking for a striker with very high jumping stats. 17 or over and give it a good test over a few games. Si may have tweaked the effectiveness of your tm in the new version.

I'm sure they will have toned it down on this version, as many of the more successful tactics for FM 07 were based on buy Eddie Johnson set him as Target Man, and sit back and enjoy the view.

Looks like people will have to think a bit more this time round.

I tried Crouch (Jumping:18) in a few matches and he won the odd header but not as many as I would have expected since he was up against a DC(Heading:12).

Like I said I've only played a few matches, so it could be the service to him is set wrong or something with the way set my tactic up anyway.

This is why I was wondering if anybody has any sort of success at creating a tactic on the Demo that utilises a "Heading" Targetman.
