With regard to "conflicting instructions/tactics. I still can't reconcile playing both offside and counter attacking together. It is not possible to play this way in real life. Mainly because the one demands that your defence plays high up the pitch, to catch the offside and the other demands dropping back and then quickly catching the opponents unawares to make a quick counter attack.
Perhaps SI could give a definitive ruling because there are a lot of tactics in 07 that use both simultaneously.

a. What is mentality and how do I use it.
Mentality affects positions and is a risk management tool. The higher the mentality the more risks you take attacking...(things like that) I've been working on the FAQ and doing other stuff as well.
So any input would be appreciated. The goal is to get it out by the time the new forums open or the demo is released.
| no problem Rashidi, I was going to put it all together in a new thread once it was more complete.
Just let me know what you want me to do with it, if anything at the moment, and I'll get to work on it.

Can you add into the general FAQ's exactly what PKM's are and how to upload them. This way people will have no excuse not to do so.
Might be good to have one on developing youth talent, Loan Vs Training.
All in all a great idea Rashidi

There'll have to be stuff we need to do when the game gets going...I think we can draw on information that comes up during a discussion and if there's common consensus on what the right approach is then it goes into the FAQ.....
Loans v Training.. I did a shorty one on that..somewhere..

One thing i noticed, in mark vaughan's hints and tips document the recommended player instructions are very vague, maybe a more in detail guide to instructions and the attributes required?

| I've put together quite a fair bit of information on player instructions and OI ones as well. Not all it is my work though. I'm still adding stuff to it.

Rashidi:
I am looking forward to the completion of a FAQ thread, but I have a slight concern about conflicting instructions. Please do not take this as an insult of any kind, as I am speaking in an objective and 'scientific' manner, but I am curious to know what gives you the authority to 'decide' what a conflicting instruction actually is. Already I disagree that a player should not be set to through balls often and run with ball, since this is exactly how I have my wingers and one striker set up, to great success I might add. Additionally, I play with an attacking global mentality (apart from one striker, which is explained below) with a very deep defensive line and I do not see the bigger playing area and conditions dropping as you mention.
I deem it quite dangerous to post 'theoretical' information that conflicts with other people's views and perhaps even the 'truth.' We all know just how poorly incorporated the in-game hints are, in fact they are quite contradictary in some cases. The reason I think this is dangerous is because often a player can become 'stuck-in-a-rut' by reading 'false' information and adopting bad habits. Not for one minute am I doubting your credentials, and perhaps you speak with SI and know something we don't, but this concept of a 'conflicting instruction' is so vague, theoretical, and dare I say 'controversial' that it's extremely difficult to actually conclude what one really is. I'll give you an example: My 'second-striker' — if I employ one in a 4-4-2 is actually set to a defensive mentality. Now, is this a contradicting instruction since he is indeed a striker? I don't think so simply because I have him set up like this to drop a little deeper to link the midfield and attack. He is also set to run with ball and through balls often and he's a vital cog in my machine. The point here is that this could be seen as a conflicting set-up. As far as I am concerned, the proof is in the pudding (in my game world), so I know that his instructions do not compete. I think that before we start throwing theories around, we need to wait for the new and updated manual (so we've been promised) and then come to a collective consensus of what a conflicting instruction is, just so we don't limit the potential for people's success. We have to remember that this is a game after all, and I can tell you from many months of testing that a fast-paced short passing game can be lethal. According to the in-game hints, this is a 'conflicting instruction.' Hopefully you can see where I am coming from.
