Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Football Manager - Tactics Forum & General Discussion

Hi All,

Never posted on here before, buthave been playing footy manager since back in the day. All I can say is that this game is truly moving in the right direction. It has always been great, then I felt it took a bit of a dip in form but now it is back up the top. The match engine is far better, I can play the game at a quicker pace compared to older footy manager games so that is one massive positive. It looks good also and is very easy to use.

One of the main points i love is the ability to go to the tactics screen during the match without it pausing like it used to. This is far more realistic. You don't see Sven Goran ericsson pause his match, choose subs then press the play button again do you?

On another topic, I noticed a thread where people were complaining about the tactics. All I can say is, you obviously don't know what you are doing, and the moderators were 100% correct. At the end of the day each team you play is totally different as well as the circumstances on that day on which you are playing. It is therefore logical that each match will require different tactics. Its not to say you can't use the same formation game in game out (which is what I do) but I do try to vary up my tactics depending on who it is I am playing. It is because of these reasons that in one match i beat everton away from home 4-1 but then lost 2-0 to Middlesbrough. Obviously I got the tactics wrong. One thing I can say is that the team talks seem to be very improtant in this game as I have definitely noticed they have an effect on my results. So far with Lvierpool I have a record that reads Won 6 Drawn 4 Lost 2 in the Premiership. Not great but not bad. I have the right formation, just need a couple of more players and need to tinker alittle with my away tactics then I think I have a decent chance at some glory. By the way, Benayoun for Liverpool is amazing so make sure you buy him or use him in your Liverpool Team.

Thats right. Sven would just play with his sliders. He would ask Mr Grip if he thought we should change closing down from 6 to 8. What difference would that make Mr Grip? You dont know? neither do i! It says nothing to help in Svens football instructions book. Mr Gripp the ass manager won't tell him anything usefull to point out where his tactics are failing.

You need your ass manager to tell you where you are going wrong. If your players cant find each other with short passes he needs to tell you to make the player mentality closer together or play narrower or whaterver it is that will help you improve. Otherwise you are just guessing.

WH, You bring up a good point about the assistant manager. After all, isn't this exactly what happens IRL? It would also, as you correctly say, take away a lot of the guesswork involved in tactics within the game.
