It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default counter-attacking football and passing

hi there!

lately I've improved my game and starting to get a clue about how the game is supposed to flow.
only thing that bothers me now is passing instructions - how to set passing individualy for each position and what passing should the team play ( lets say im villareal and playing counter-attacking defensive footbal on a diamond formation, riquelme playing as amc and playmaking, playmaker ticked as well as counterattack )

my formation:

team instructions:
http://img261.imageshack.us/my.php?i...uctionsya3.jpg

im playing the default RoT player instructions ( just go to the right thread to find out what im talking about )

question is: what kind of passing should FBs, CDs, DM, Wingers, AM and strikers play? each and his own or all should play under the team's passing instructions ? please show some help here!

I'm no expert. But I suppose you want Senna involved both defensively and in launching the counterattacks? In that case I would make him hold the ball up with mixed passing instructions. Maybe even make him the playmaker. I would try short passing for the fullbacks and centrebacks. Wingers, amc and strikers would probably benefit from more direct passing. I would also give fullbacks and centrebacks little creative freedom.

yes, im looking for senna to be the quarterback of the team - making the interceptions and launching the attacks just like a true DM, but why holding the ball when im looking for a pacey counter-attacking gameplan? and about passing for back line - i thought it should be direct so the balls fly quickly to the forwards \ amc? ( and i dont believe anyone is more suitible than riquelme to be the Playmaker of the team - he is ticked with free role ofcourse. )

My reason for doing this would be to have him holding the ball up a bit and attract attention for the attackers to run forward into positions before he launches the attack. Might not work though.

ok ive decided to let off the counter-attack because i lost possession too fast, what i did to gain possession back is remove RWB from DM, let him only play mix TTB and often LG.

wingers swap and have mixed TTB, Crossing and LG. Often FWR and RWB, no hold ball.

Dahl Tomasson is my Pivot player, as he play FWR mixed and RWB rarely, TTB mixed and no hold ball, nihat ( xisco on the pic because is injured ) is my Striker as he has FWR and RWB often, rest is rarely.

i still need comments about passing! what passing for each individual and what for the team ( does it change anything at all ? )

so... I've made a few changes and this is my recent form:

http://img205.imageshack.us/my.php?i...0307151ge8.jpg

1 lose [ atl.madrid], many victories =)

i decided to play counter-attacking football only when defending
a score on home matches\playing away match. ( or playing a very
good team on home )

my current team instructions look like that :
home -
http://img64.imageshack.us/my.php?im...uctionsiv0.jpg

while on away games i like to use tight marking and a target man
as well as ticking counter-attack and un-ticking playmaker.
i set my mentality more defensive as i change the mentality
slider to the last notch of defensive ( +1 = normal ) and keep
defensive line 2 clicks higher than mentality - so when i get the
ball players are already located high on pitch and ready to
counter...

my wingers \ defenders are always on FWR often ( except when
trying to shut down a game, then it moves to mixed )
and wingers often RWB, rest mixed.

i found out that using Nihat [or any other good and pacey dribbler]
is best with letting him FWR and RWB ofently, and keep TTB shots
and crossing on rarely.
as for tomasson - can be used as a on the deck TM as well as an SS,
as he is set for mixed FWR and RWB, rarely shooting and crossing
and often TTB.

so far so good, and im yet to find what kind of passing i should
use for each position. i also find it very hard to pick the correct
players from the opposition to give OI [teams like valencia, barca
got many talented players so its impossible to set for everyone
of their players.]

any suggestions? you can see i lost to Atl.madrid because i haven't
found a solution.

and... right again i lost an away match to FC barcelona, as pires was sent off after an early 2nd yellow card.

yet, when watchign the game i could notice my wingers \ strikers not getting any space, eventhough i tried pulling barca to my half and set tomasson as a TM on the deck with rarely FWR and HUB.

i tweaked ronaldiniho and henry to play weaker foot and close down. my mentality was last notch of defensive [+1 = normal], tempo was 4 notch of slow and defensive line was normal.
CA, TM and tight marking all ticked, free role for AM and mixed fwr for am\wingers together with fullbacks often fwr.

what could i else possibly do? i got dominated:

http://img106.imageshack.us/my.php?image=statsbn2.jpg

scout said to watch out for henry bla bla bla :x
