It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

I don't get it. In my experience it seems more efficient to always close down all strikers. Am I missing something obvious?

This probably comes down to preference and the player stats. If your defenders are slow and old, then you don't want them to close down too often as they will be caught out of position a fair amount of times over a season.

But if your defenders are fast and have good stats (which are mentioned further up) then you should be able to close down a lot more.

Yo Cleon, interesting read. When you said zonal is the way to go due to man marking being flawed, what did you mean.

Does this include centre backs?

Are you talking about 07 or the demo because man marking is not flawed in the demo.... nor I believe in 07.

hello

i have just quick question for tacticals gurus.
i playing 442 ( with wingers in amr/l positions ) i playing wide 15 , passing both flanks, and i have all players on team mentality - 13, expect two DCs who has 7 on mentality. FBs has fwr to often, but with barrows. My two MCs has FWR to rearly ( but they stil 13 on mentality ) My question is: what with my d-line . It`s should be 13 ( as team mentality ) or 7 ( as my two MCs mentality ) ?

sorry for poor english

cheers

Id like to bring somthing to the front and debate as to why this may be.

Iv read alot of topics on here based on tactics and how they should change for different games etc.

i was on such a stagnant run i desided to totaly revamp my tactic, all players in my team including the golie has there creative bar set to normal and for my wingers i have it st onto full.

I do how ever use defensive mentality for defenders and normall for medfield and attacking for forwards.

sinc ei made this change. im keeping clean sheets. i had 5 in a row. i managed to beat Blackburn 4-0 away, and Chelsea 4-0 at home when they were top of the league. im managing Newcastle in 2nd season. pritty much standerd squad, im down in 8th 20 points behind Chelsea,

So b4 i changed these from a low creative freedom when i was concedding goals all the time. my team suddenly becomes tight at the back..

i find when teams attack me. my players are always 1st to react. always first to win the ball. Central Defenders will rush into midfeild to win a header. when b4. they stood still like they were sinking in mud,

This all undermines what i have read about attacking formations and Counter attacking etc.

I feel like it's pure luck when i win and computer is cheating when i lose. because all though ti make the changes and win. i dont actually see how i would win giving 11 players loads of freedom playing against chelsea and beat them 4-0.
Giving them more creative freedom just gives them permission to play away from the instructions you've given them.

A good example would be to assume your centreback was on low closing down and you didn't play with a high defensive line. You say they rush into midfield to win headers, which would be contradicting those instructions. They wouldn't care because you've given them the freedom to do so.
