all we see in the U.k media is general immense praise of rooney, even if he has an off day, there is too much praise over what i see as a slightly above average striker who love to lob keepers.
Sorry to be rude, but you know nothing about footballer if thats all you think of Rooney. Watch him every week home and away like me, then form an opinion.
I agree tom, that his more than an **average** striker or he wouldnt be playing for manu. BUT i consider him OVERRATED, he aint world class like how football manager makes him to be.
His a great a striker, but not enough to be considered world class. he needs to show more of his **potential** ability.

I doubt you seldom see him playing on the field..if hes not scoring doesnt mean he average, he do contribute in assistin his partner or teammate to score.. he usually score in big matches which is vital. If he does not consider whole class, There are whole LOT bunch out there like him ready to let u rate them as "above average"
I think if you look at his career since he made his debut for Everton, he has grown and learnt every single season.
All you need to look at is his mentality and intelligence, since joinging Man Utd it seems as if Fergie has ironed out a lot of the temper issues he had. He works a lot harder during matches now too. To say he needs to show more potential, when he has already dispatched most of the top teams in the world, in club football and internationally. More potential, what more can you ask him to do at his age? He plays with his heart and soul week in week out, comes back from injuries with more determination to show the skill he has, scores 20 goals a season for fun, sets up almost as much as he scores, he has shown more skills than 90% of footballers have in 20 years of playing!!
