Ok I'm on attempt number 4 now.. all 3 previous attempts have resulted in a swift kick back to the championship or else a P45 before that happened.

Has anyone managed to keep Sunderland up and if so.. HOW?!

I attempted it only once and failed.

Every game I have played they have suffered miserably and gone straight down, it seems quite a task.

Exactly as in real life, they walk the Championship but simply aren't good enough for the Premiership. Not yet, anyway.

I managed an 11th place finish in first season with Sunderland the current squad is not good enough obviously lol. So i sold the following players

Danny Collins - £1 million
Nyron Nosworthy - £4 million over 24 months
Daryl Murphy - £2.2 million over 24 months
Roy O'Donovan - 500k

I bought the following players

Ignashevich - free
Arthur Sorin - 50k
Bogdan Stancu - 400k
Cabanas - 2.2 million
Jonathan Evans - Loan
Matteu Flamini - Loan
Chris Samba - 1 million
Pablo Piatti - 500k
I play the following formation

GK Gordon
DL Harte
CB Ignashevich
CB Samba
DR Sorin
DM Flamini
CM Richardson
CM Whitehead
AM Piatti
ST Stancu
ST Cabanas

Some times i change to a straight 4-4-2 with the same player as above. It is hard to keep Sunderland up but if you buy correctly in January then you can stay up usually they give you £6 million to spend in Jan maybe more. I use this to buy Breno and Lulinha. Hope this helps.

i managed i think 13th in my first season then won the EPL in my 5th season.

first season i used:

GK: Gordon
WBR: Halford/ Edwards
WBL: Harte/ Wallace
CB: Anderson
CB: Higginbotham
CB: McShane (still good in 6th season)
CM: Whitehead
CM: Kavanagh (in January i got Tomas Sivok to replace him)
AMC: Leadbitter
ST: Jones
ST: Chopra (scored 17 goals was my top scorer that season)


now in my 6th season my squad is:
GK: Oscar Ustari/ Rob Stone (regen)
RB: Simpson
LB: Drenthe
CB: Breno
CB: Vidic
DM: Fabregas
DM: Sivok
AML: Cassano
AMR: Nani
ST: Tevez
ST: Bojinov


Recomended players to look at: Dagoberto, Billy Sharp, Ignashevic, Samba, Sivok, Simpson, Breno, Evans (man utd), Hobbs (l'pool).

All worth a look on your game maybe not first season but in first 2-3 seasons. its difficult but possible, usually takes bit of luck too with injurys not only ot your players but if opponents key players are injured it helps lol.

Didn't use anything really appart from a basic 4-4-2 narrow and quick. Like Blackcats said it takes a bit of luck aswell, Also when selling i recommend offering players out over 24 months just got 5.75 million for Nosworthy over 24 months. What leagues do you run because i just signed a couple of players from Sundowns in Africa that look pretty good.
