What you did wrong, Ian, is that you should have qualified for Europe by winning the Cup prior to getting promoted. Then you'd have avoided the cycle.
I've seen it too, in other versions (yet to get to the EPL in 07). You always seem to do too well in that first season and then get the struggle you should have had in the second one, except that now it's compounded by a Euro Cup or the like.

Was certainly the case in FM05, and not just in the English leagues. My East Fife reached the SPL, finished 6th in their first season, then next year we would murder most European teams we met and proceed to concede three goals in the 10 first minutes of our next league fixture. Was sacked in December |

Pur-leeze | I have started a game with Blyth Spartans, not fully adhering to your, forgive me saying, extremely strict criteria, but not far off. Struggling lol.

How do I know? Because it's happened 4 times out of the 6 times I've done it, and that's only in FM2007...it was the same in previous incarnations.
The 2 times out of 6 I escaped relegation by the skin of my teeth.
Funny thing is, when/if you get promoted with a second, or subsequent, team...then it doesn't happen, only with the first.
I'm sitting here laughing because the aquaplaning's about to happen again. We just beat Galatasaray 5-0 on aggregate in the 2nd knock-out round of the Uefa Cup, and we have 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th in the next four league games. I've never got higher than League One with an LLM team |

I have it on the highest (SI) authority, that aquaplaning is but a figment of the Celtic imagination.
Superior management skills will prevent it
Funny but I do seem to be <STRIKE>aqua</STRIKE>driving on a wet surface most of the season just now

I've never experienced what our jock mod describes, certainly nothing which suggests our bad runs are anything more than that.
