Default Exotic Switzerland

Here's my first update ever:

I asked Frank hoping for a crappy team in an exotic location. He gave me FC Kriens in Switzerland

There was another thing that struck me: Switzerland must be one of the most ineffective footballing countries in the world, because I saw a lot of strange combinations.
Example: Because my scout was taken from me in my first week, I had to search another one. Now I would be wrong to say that all eight applicants had a 1 in their important stats, becase there was one scout with a 2 and one with a 6.
Needless to say I signed the one with a six. the scouts only asked 15€ per week, so I signed a couple more.

Then I had a look at my squad.

I had a very promising attacker, good stats all around and only 17, but he had finishing 2, long shots 3 and heading 3.
I had a Striker with 16 dribbling, but 4 pace, so he wasn't going anywhere with the ball,
I had a striker with a 15 for heading, but he was 172cm tall (you're gonna have to get used to the cm, kg and euro's thing),
etc.

And to make things worse, they have 2 football seasons in a year as I can't really call 3 months leave a 'Winterstop' anymore

On the other hand: 700k (euro's) in the bank

Anyway,

Season 2006/2007 Challenge League

Media prediction: 11th of 18
Board and fans: Battle bravely

It was obvious me and my players had to adapt to my crooked field as I lost my first friendlies quite resoundingly (0-7,0-4,0-3)
What was even more worrying: with only 2 friendlies to go, none of my players had a fitness rating of over 70%

We got ready just in time for the first game, which we won, amazingly, and even more amazing: we continued to win half of the games.
result:

5th P:34 W:15 D:9 L:10 Gf:48 Ga:35 Pts:54

Enough for a playoff spot one would think, but not in switzeland. 18 teams and only 1 direct promotion and 1 playoff spot. It was going to be hard to get promoted here...

Cups sucked arse, more about that later.

Highlight: Winning all those matches while having no idea what I was doing
Lowlight: 2nd round in the cup, away against 3rd placed super league outfit Young Boys (average age 27). I manage to draw 1-1 while being outshot 19-3. Manage to keep it tight in ET. Penalties: We all score them, untill Young Boys miss their 5th penalty. My player place his ON THE CROSSBARR!!! and we subsequently lose.

Transfers: 7 players in for a combined total of 89k (they turn out to be great all 7 of them) 1 player out for 10k. My squad was rather thin.

Been making profit all year, nice attendances and low wages. End up 1.1M in the black.

cba to look up CL and stuff, but if you really want to know, just ask.

Season 2007/2008 Challenge League

Media Prediction: 6th
Board and fans: Respectable League position
My expectation: 3rd or 4th, better than last season, but you can't really hope for promotion with only 2 spots.

I started to play better and better as I started to understand the strange players I had. And even despite the sale of 240k (yay!) of one of last season's signings and revelations in the midfield, I managed to win the league and promotion!
I also managed some cup glory by getting past Young Boys in the second round (AGAIN!!! grrr) and inexplicably defeating 3 more Super League teams Just to lose against Basel in the final. Basel also finished first in the SL, so I was off to the Euro cup!!!!
I also had alot of youngsters going international.

1st P:34 W:19 D:9 L:6 Gf:58 Ga:21 Pts:66

Highlight: Winning against Young Boys!
Lowlight: none, it really was a great season.

Transfers: 5 players in for 400k, including a much needed promising young goalkeeper. 8 players out for 450k (mainly my midfielder for 240k and a RB for 180k)
With around 1M prize money from last years league position and some nice cup earnings, managed to get 2M in the bank

Also got offerd the Switzerland Job somewhere along the way, needless to say I refused. A week later they offered me the U19 Switzerland job, I hesitated, because it would be cool, and not so very unrealistic, but managing national is almost impossible without using the player search screen as you have no scouts, so I declined.

Season 2008/2009 Super League

In the Super League Things were strange once again. It only has 10 teams, so that means relegation battle would be a b****, evenwith only 2 playoff spots. We played eachother 4 times.

To contribute to the stress, The board were unwilling to expand the stadium (2500 seats) or improve facilities (they're good enough, but hey, I can try). What was even worse is that the club wouldn't turn pro, and I still couldn't scout outside Switzerland, despite having plenty in the bank.
I did get 22k for wages, with which i could do absolutely nothing.

Media Prediction: 10th of 10
Board and Fans: Battle bravely
Me: Battle bravely

Being the only semi pro and the only club only to scout in Switzerland, I was at a severe disadvantage. I think the worst part about scouting in Switzerland is that it only takes 10 days, so you have to restart the search over and over.
After selling my main RM for 500k and all my other RM's on a free because they were either carp, to old, or both. I noticed the fact that I didn't have a RM in my squad while selecting players for my first SL match...
My 17 year old striker with the low finishing turned 19, and his stats improved dramatically, except ofcourse finishing, which was a workable 7.
He was my team's top scorer and 2nd in SL player and foreign player of the season. I finished a surprising 6th, getting there only the last match, with 7th being my highest league position ever before that.
The value of my team quadrupled from 675k to 2.5M

6thP:36 W:11 D:8 L:17 Gf:49 Ga:50 Pts:41 Rated Overachievers of the season

cups suck arse (including Euro Cup)

Highlight: all my 4-1 and 3-0 wins against the higher teams. I have no idea how I did it (but don't tell the chairman!)
Lowlight: despite having dominated both matches, going down on 4-2 aggregate in the 2nd qualification for the EURO cup.

Transfers: Reinforced my squad with 10 players for a total of 36k including a Swiss Centre Back on a free, who was the second best signing of the season. 14 players out for a total of 775k, with both my very promising wingers for 500k and 275k.
I let my RM go for 500k because I tought he was susceptible to injuries, never having played more than half a season with me. He was out for only 4 weeks the whole season after I sold him. The other was said to be promising but the stats didn't really convince me.
I lost 1 of my super pair in the midfield on a bosman, man I was p*ssed.

I now have 6M in the bank, and I'm starting to feel nauseous from all the mopney and quality I have in the team, this isn't really LLM anymore (wasn't really LLM in the fist place, but if Frank says so...)
Still, It's going to be quite a challenge to stay in the SL still semi-pro with a small stadium and no international scouts. My goal is to manage Antwerp someday, as the stadium is very close to where I live.
I am also longing to the English Conference, but having gone this far, I feel there's no turning back...

P.S. Although this is my first update here, I've been following the LLM forum for almost a year now. Oh, and I have also read the header (yaaaay)

the LOTR name is elbereth with a b. Eldereth is more a wrong typed Eldreth, a Wood Elven commander from Warhammer.

Before you draw overhastened conclusions however, my bmi is under 20 and I also have a social life. (of sorts)

One can only hope that RAFC gets the title this year, but something tells me they'll screw up either this year or get relegated the next, shoudl they go up
