Prologue

Originally, Frank sent me to Persipur in the Indonesian First League (that is, the second
tier). Finished 9th (dead last), relegated, sacked. Took over Mitra (same league, another
group), ended up 2nd, failed to gain promotion from playoffs, though a draw in the last game
could've secured it. Save became corrupt, so it's a restart.

So, second try.
Frank sends me to...

Squad being crappy is not exactly a surprise. Backroom staff being even crappier is also
not. The whole coaching staff is fired, plus the physio (phyisiotherapy rating of 1. Man,
does he know anything except for waving his battle axe over injured players? ).
In come 4 trialists, of which 2 left backs get the nod and join the squad. 2 coaches, a goalkeeper
coach and a physio also gets contract. The physio has a brilliant 4 rating of physiotherapy.
Probably he knows Aspirin.
I exchange some players near the jungle for a handful of coconuts (5 guys fired), and a
22-man squad begins training camp in Brunei. Offseason is OK, first half of the league is
somewhat patchy. Defense is tight ass, letting in very few goals, but we have an awful lot
of draws, and lack firepower up front. The month-long mid-season break sees us at 6th place,
with a 2-6-2 record.
I'm off to a shopping spree. In come a Cameroonian MC for 10K, an Argentinean ST for a
whopping 35K, and a young Indonesian AMC for 2K. With a few future signings, transfer money
is spent. The Argentinean debuts with a goal in the cup, and ends up scoring 9 in 8
matches. He also gets his Brazilian striker partner going, and some wins lifts us to 4th
place, missing out on the playoff spots by 2 points.
Pos.: 4th
P: 18 W:6 D:7 L:3 21-11, 25 pts
POY: Brazilian striker
Top goalscorer: Argentinean striker, 9 goals
Best rating: Argentinean striker (this is getting boring...), 8,00
Cup sucked. Out in the first round against Premier League opposition (1-3,0-0)
High: a wonderful 6-0 away win in the last round
Low: no really low points
All in all, an OK season.

Offseason finds us in Thailand, where I experiment with new tactics. The results show, we
are violated by every single team that happens to play us
As we get into the rhythm, results are better, so I'm quite optimistic before the
championship kick-off. We start the season with a nice 2-0 away win, and we finish the
season with a nice 3-2 away win.
The problem is, that in between the two we lose all our
away games. Despite being unbeaten at home throughout the year, our away misery puts a dent
in our promotion playoff hopes. Getting to the podium thus improving one place is little
consolation.
Transfer-wise the season is quiet, some young players and a much-needed solid DC will join
in the break, and my useless Cameroonian striker gets the boot along with some benchwarmers.
Next year one thing is certain: we'll have a very young squad.
Pos.: 3rd
P: 18 W:7 D:3 L:6 24-19, 24 pts
POY: Indonesian backup AMC
Top goalscorer: Argentinean striker, 6 goals
Best rating: Indonesian backup AMC, 7,20
Cup sucked, sucks, and always will suck. Out in the first round against Premier League
opposition (0-3, 0-1)
High: Smashing runners-up Putra 4-1, when 8 of my players (including 5 of 7 strikers) were
injured.
Oh, and probably breaking the all-time fair play record. Only one yellow card during the
season in total! We're either fair or way too posh. :p
Low: Losing a game away 2-1, when we had 68% of the ball was plain annoying, especially
because both goals were conceded after my keeper giving the ball away. Losing the next away
game against the dead last team was just plain miserable. Away form really needs to be
sorted out.
Awards won: worst signing :p with an ex-international ST.

I start the season with getting my axe in action. 14 players get the boot, 3 are sold. 11
guys come. I spend 40K on a Mali DC (who's proving worthe every penny of it), and a total
15K on others. All new players are younger than 24, so the squad average age dramatically
change for a mere 20.
Another drastic change: these guys know the game called football.
After a bunch of friendlies (a friendly cup at home, Brunei and Myanmar toured) the young squad
starts with a win over Putra, who are a pain in the ass usually. Form remains very solid
all season, and quickly we find ourselves being runaway leaders with recently relegated
Persiwa.
The mid-season transfer period brings a change: a young ST who scored 8 goals in 8
matches joins us. My defense is excellent, letting in only 3 goals until 3 games to go.
That's when two things happen. We reach the playoffs hand in hand with Persiwa, and the Mali
DC breaks his foot
His abscence shows, as we go on to lose both our remaining away games, but a home win
secures us first spot. And a playoff place.
Playoffs:
We beat Persiwa 1-0 at home, then lose to Bengkulu quite unluckily away (1-2). The last
match against Perserang is the decisive one, and a draw is enough for me to go up.
We score early after a wonderful move, and easily hold on to it, so we finish playoffs 2nd, and win
promotion after 3 seasons \o/ The young striker who I signed mid-season scores all the
goals. Thanks, scouts!
Board is over the moon. They give me a double pay-rise. From now on I get 50 dollars a week

I have no clue how difficult next season will be. When I played Premier League teams
Some things about Indonesian leagues, just in case anybody wants to play here (after you see your squad, I BET you want to run away):
- it's surprisingly easy to keep a good financial balance. The average Indonesian cannon fodder player sigs for around 3 beers/week, so the payroll is low. Given that and very good fan turnout, it's very easy to make profit
- but there's no way that you can spend this profit
- the league is really unpredictable and balanced. First division consists of 4 groups of 9, first 2 reaching promotion playoffs. Offseason is awful f***in' terribly long, around 5 months.
- I'd rather try a self-amputation than letting an Indonesian physio trying to cure
No signs of Bandung being present in the leagues/non-league. However, there are a bunch of teams with abbreviations (PSSA and such), so there can be, but I'm lazy to look.
Interesting so far. I've actually started my first serious LLM game in this neck of the woods, though it'll be a while before it's worthy of an official update thread.
What you say about the physios is spot on, though there isn't much to say for the scouts either .
