Well, the board was disappointed after the 2nd place

Maybe they meant "top half of the table" like "top of the podium?" :p

I thought about job-hopping as my contract runs out this season, but being able to scout outside Indonesia opens up a new world (like you can scout and sign absolutely useless players from Brunei and Singapore :cool

Persikad, Indonesian Premier League Group B, 2013

Contract year for me.

Media: 5th
Fans & board: Top half finish

Team turns pro, thus reputation goes up, and previously unreachable players can be targeted. Another change is that for the first time I'm allowed to scout outside Indonesia. It was high time for this.

Players in: 7, including a proper left winger, 2 U21 internationals, and 2 U21 internationals from Brunei.

Out: 5. My very talented D/WB/AM R is sold for a club record money, others are backup players.
---
First phase is the usual. We come out on top, mostly thanked to our defence (conceding only 8 goals in 26 matches). The scoring department is not as good as in the last years, mostly due to my talented Indonesian ST having a confidence crisis.

First match of the second phase annihilates our dreams of the championship final. Despite outshooting Persita 24 (7)-4 (3), they win 2-1. A win and a loss mean that we lose our chance to a podium finish as well.
---
Cup is the consolation. We struggle all the way through to the final, eliminating oppositions in very tight games. In the final against PKT we have a lucky goal in the very last minute of the first half, double the lead after a beautiful counter in the 50th minute, and we can lift the cup for the second time in the club's history \o/
---
No international cups this year.
---
League, 1st phase
Pos.: 1st
P: 26 W: 18 D: 5 L: 3 42-8 59 pts

League, 2nd phase
Pos.: 3rd
P: 3 W: 1 D: 0 L: 2 2-3 3 pts
Final position: tied 5th-6th
---
Cup:
Winners
Final: PKT 2-0 (1-0)
---

Awards:

Top goalscorer: Argentinean club legend nearing his 100th goal for Persikad; 13 goals

Best Avg. + Fans' POY: fantastic young DC, 7,46 (6 goals)

I sign for 2 more years, and a stadium expansion is on the way.

The fact that it's so easy to blow your championship dreams away after violating everyone in the 1st phase, makes the league for me quite exciting.

Just found an interesting statistics, looking at the history of my players:

My striker pair has been playing together for the last five seasons. The young Indonesian striker has been with us for 4,5; the experienced Argentinean ST for 6,5 years.

I looked at how they performed after the first phase of the championship/cup. These matches include the 3 second phase (playoff) matches, the championship and cup finals.

We reached 2nd phase each year, the championship finals 3 times, the cup finals 2 times. That makes 20 matches altogether.

Argentinean ST

Played: 17 out of 20 matches
Scored: 3 goals in 17 matches (0,176 GPG)
Average rating: 6,35
Carreer GPG: 0,58
Carreer rating avg.: 7,07

Indonesian ST

Played: 18 out of 20 matches
Scored: 7 in 18 matches (0,39 GPG)
Average rating: 6,72
Carreer GPG: 0,53
Carreer rating avg.: 7,13

I think some setback in the statistics is inevitable, due to playing against good teams, usually in good form as well.

But my Argentinean guy really seems to be only a shadow of himself when playing important matches. All his goals were coming in my two biggest victories (3-0 each), so they didn't really matter all that much.

The young Indonesian also has a bit lower ratings, but he's only 23, and has been coping with "feeling the pressure of public expectation" for a year. So it's OK. Maybe more than OK if I think about he single-handedly gave us promotion in his first year, and the only player who was able to score in the playoffs last year.

I'd really like to see the original scout report cards of these two. I wonder whether the Argentinean's had a "doesn't relish on big matches" line.

Persikad, Indonesian Premier League, Gr B, 2014

Media: 4th

Fans, board: top half

In: 2 great striker talents, one from Brunei, one from Malaysia. A backup DMC, and two young Indonesian internationals: a DC (250K) and an AM/F C (350K - I think club record).

Out: 3rd choice DC and 6 squad players. The former for 250K, the latters free.

Stadium expansion is on the way, completed for an Asian CL match (+5000 seats).

First phase is wonderful. We play highly entertaining and spectacular football, violating almost everyone. 7 matches to go we're in the playoffs, we win our group by 13 pts (if I look at both groups, we were 11 pts ahead of anybody else), and losing our unbeaten status with two matches to go. Meanwhile, we go on a long run again in the cup, and for the first time ever, qualify for the latter stages of the Asian CL.

So playoffs again. We draw Arema (1-1), and we're doomed again from this point. We record two easy wins (3-1, 4-2), but they do so too (4-1, 4-1). And catch the first spot on goal difference. This league system is highly frustrating. We win the bronze match though.

Cup run ends in the semifinal against PSM. We win the bronze match though (I have enough of bronze matches)

Asian CL is amazing. We win our group before the Chinese champions, the S. Korean and the Australian cupwinners. Qualification comes in a thriller against the Chinese, with a 86th minute winner.

To my greatest surprise, we fly over the next hurdle as well, beating Australian champions Melbourne Victory. In the semi-final, we grind out a draw against Chinese cupwinners Shandong (1-1). And...

...the home game crashes with an Asian Cup qualifiers. With 10 of my players called up, a greyed out in the goal, greyed outs only on the bench, we're doomed. Out with a 0-4. Really ****ed me off. SortitoutSI

Won the indifferent Indonesian Super Cups.

Next year, contract year. 90% that I'll go for a different challenge.

But before that. I have enough of playoffs, semifinals, bronzes and silvers. A last try for a gold. (probably I'm just cursed because I've won the league as a newly promoted team, and with 1 shot on goal in the final. Now I got it back.)

League
1st phase
Pos.: 1st
P: 26 W: 22 D: 3 L: 1 72-12 69 pts

2nd phase
P: 3 W: 2 D: 1 L: 0 8-4 7 pts
Pos.: 2nd on goal difference

Bronze match
1-0 vs PSM AET

Final position: 3rd

Cup: Out in the semifinal, won the bronze against Persiba, 2-1 AET

Super Cup: won, 3-0 vs Persija

Asian CL: out in the semifinal

More than 50 matches, more than 110 goals scored, 7 players in the Team of the Year, Player of the Year, Signing of the Year, Young Player of the Year equals: two bronze medals and a virtuaƩ bronze medal

Bah!

Top scorer: Indonesian ST, 14 goals in the league, 20 altogether
Fans' POY and POY: Cameroonian right winger
Best rating: Indonesian DC (7,71). Chairman sold him during the season to Toluca in Mexico. Teams from 4 continents queued up for him, so it was time to move. He could've come in handy in the playoffs, though.

Next time lucky (?!)

I'm English, but live in Indonesia. I live in a town called Bogor - we have a team in the top division.

Team names are very confusing though. Persija are probably the best known team - they have a fan base called Jak-Mania and they are known for being crazy and fighting a lot. They're based in Jakarta.

The league itself is pretty corrupt and played at a very poor standard. Not many Indonesian people actually support Indonesian teams.

There is a Bandung team for the person who asked earlier - Persib Bandung. I'm not sure I would call Bandung a small town though - it's population is in the millions!!
