Well I started my first game follwoing the LLM rules exactly. I've been a LLM in the past and basicly followed the LLM rules (SWYCT, no real-world knowledge, etc.) but this time now that I upgraded from 01/02 to 2006 I decided to make sure I followed all the rules.
I selected Northwich Victoria from the English Conference North. The board immediately gave me no money for transfers and told me they expected nothing less than the title for the 05/06 season. Huh, nothing like a challenge to start with. My squad looked good early on, but it lacked depth, so I sent a scout out to find me some cheap young kids I could train. This keeps me just barely over the salary budget for the season and the board doesn't seem too upset about it.
We got off to a solid start and spent most of the season in the top couple of spots. The next to last fixture of the season found me away from home needing only a win to claim the Championship and my boys came through, delivering the trophy.
Up to Coference National for the 06/07 season and the board decides to take the team professional, opening up a larger salary budget but still no real transfer budget. The board just expects me to avoid relegation, but that looks to be difficult as it takes me 14 games to get my first professional win, and my future is not looking good, though the board contiunes to be pleased. My defense is giving up goals right and left and desperate measures are called for. In the winter transfer season I make wholesale changes to the squad, throwing the salary budget to the win to find anyone that will help me stay up. My desperation moves work out as the team gets results and I finish in 15th, though there are questions about my finances from the media.
For 07/08 the board wants to avoid relegation gain, and I get off to a flying start. A young striker scores 20 in the first third of the season and I'm challenging for the title. My budget is still out of control though, so I have to sell the young forward that saved my season last year at the midway point, and this seems to affect my young star as his goal scoring drops of and he gets a 3 match ban for kicking a player after a whistle, then gets upset when I warn him about his behavior. After scoring 20 in the first third he only scores 9 for the rest of the season and my fortunes wane. However I still hang around the playoff zone but late in the season a couple of results go against us and we fall to 8th. Still an improvement from the previous season and I managed to get the budget closer to reality. The young striker has 1 year left on his contract, but is already demanding more than I can fford, so I sell him for 375K, of which I get to keep 140K for my transfer budget, which I use to bring in a new playmaker and striker and save 90K for the next season.
08/09 is upon me, and the board seems to be losing faith as all they request this season is to invest in youth and improve the squad. That's not a good sign for my fortunes this season, nor is the fact that I'm WAY over my salary budget to start the season. Let's see what the season brings shall we?
