Season 9 brought a new challenge. I was starting to get restless with Northwich Victoria, and 9 games into the season the Plymouth Argyle job became available. They were reglated from the EPl the previous year, and they were off to a pretty bad start. Their board offered me 10 times my salary and a large salary budget and transfer budget to keep them from being relegated., Assuming I accomplished that they said they would sign me to a long-term contract, so I made the jump
They weren't in bad shape, sitting 21st, but their salaries were out of control and they had a number of average players. I sorted the team, instituted my own tactics, made a few player moves in the mid-season transfer window, and managed to get them to 14th in the Championship and the 5th Round fo the FA Cup.
The Plymouth board is much more fickle than the Northwich board though, as I regularly got dissapointing/delighted messages after particularly bad or good games, and I even got the dreaded vote of confidence twice during the season. I finished up well though, and I accepted a 2-year contract to stay with them. My salary is still 30K over the budget, but most of that is due to one over-paid striker (24K a week) that is only worth playing in the reserves but refuses to move unless I agree to continue paying him 18K a week. He's only got one more year on his contract at least.

Well done Jason, excellent work.
Good luck with the Argyle in the Championship. It's a long way to any other football ground from there |

Not yet, I've got plenty of people willing to buy him, but he continues to either reject the offers, or asks me to continue paying him 20.5K a week to take the offer. If I'm only going to save 3.5K a week, I'm going to keep him in case I run into an injury crisis at striker.
