Season 06/07 - Newport County (Conference South)

As Newport County are my local team, I decided to give them a whirl. I inherited a team that looked like it was on its last legs, although it did have a youth academy. The board and fans both expected mid-table mediocrity, and a slow start to the season, followed by a late surge saw me finish in 2nd place. Sadly though, promotion was pulled from my grasp as Sutton Utd beat us 2-0 in the final (after both of my strikers had been sent off).
Cup form was poor, losing to Exeter in the 4th round qual. in the FA Cup and Stevenage in the 3rd round of the FA Trophy.

Season 07/08 (Conference South)

Signed some much needed reinforcements in the close season, strengthening my forwards and defence. Board and fans wanted much of the same, while I was feeling quietly confident. We got off to a great start, leading by 10 points at the half way point. Sadly my side got complacent and started losing, but we held on to win the League by goal dif.
FA Cup 4th Round Qual. again, this time losing to Carshalton.
My dreams of FA Trophy "glory" were shattered in the 3rd Round by Weymouth on penalties.

Season 08/09 (Conference National)

The club were expecting a desperate stuggle against relegation this year, but a couple of signings saw the season start brightly only to fizzle out again late on. Finished 7th place, two points outside the play-offs.
A great run in the FA Cup saw us reach the third round where we were demolished 6-0 by West Ham. The board actually told me that they were disappointed- unbelievable.
The FA Trophy ended for me in the 2nd round as Forest Green beat us 2-0.

Season 09/10 (Conference National)

The Fans and board were expecting a safe mid-table position this year and the way my team started, that's what I was expecting too. After bringing in some new blood in midfield, results pick up a bit and we go on several good runs. The Season ends with a shock- We Win the league.
FA Cup goes well again, the draw being very kind and I get to the 3rd round again.
The FA Trophy didn't suck quite so much ass this year and we beat Dag & Red in the final.

I come to the conclusion that Newport's fans are possibly the most fickle I have ever come across, with the average attendance being just over 1000 (500 below last season).

Figo (I presume it's not Luis), I'm originally from Poole, but I'm in Newport while I do my English degree. Live in St Julians. Haven't been to see a Newport game yet but will soon I think. Tomorrow is pub day!
