Hey,
I'm St. Albans - the best thing to do is get the hell out of the Blue Square South as you just bleed money. It took me 2 years to get promoted and I lost around 350k in that time, but once you get out you start getting a bit more cash (£85,000 in TV revenue, better attendances and so on)
While you're down there though:
Firstly don't cheat and organise big reserve fixtures to make money - you'll just feel cheap and dirty in the morning. Organise matches against the reserves of other teams in the league - they don't have a reserve league either and you will bring in a bit of cash from your under 18s and your reserves playing a game a week (you have to set them all up yourself so set a note to remind you when you need to make some more)
DON'T choose the other teams below the BSS or BSN - they will destroy your reserves and hammer their confidence, it's bad.
That should net you a bit of extra cash and keep your players fit.
Secondly - look at the contracts your players are on - offer everyone a new contract to see if they will take a pay cut (several will for unknown reasons) but make sure that, if it's a player you don't want, that you don't extend their contract beyond when it was originally going to run out. Also look out for young players with very large appearance bonuses - total it up and see how much playing matches is actually costing you and try to keep that down - if a backup player has a huge appearance bonus, don't play him unless necessary.
But really until you get out it costs a bomb
Cheers
Andy
