right you know this buisness with buying players contracts into the last year would this work on the game and possible to have your chairman pick out a target when you are appointed to manage them so say N Quinn welcomes you to sunderland blah blah we would like to see mc fadden at our club ( example )
In most cases, it's the Chairman's money anyway, so he could actually do it. This is actually possible in rare instances since FM07, especially for Chelsea, if Roman Abramovic isn't satisfied with your signings.
Perhaps, like others have suggested brilliantly before, this might be expanded to include features resembling the above, but to varying degrees.
- Chairman/Director of Football identifies targets and then negotiates deals with clubs/agents and gets back to you before deal is finalised for your "approval"
- Chairman/DoF points out specific players that they feel would be good additions to the club, allowingextra funds to be diverted to capturing their signatures should you wish to pursue them
I seem to recall on FM07, my flat mate started a game as Arsenal boss. They wanted big name signings and weren't impressed with his, so went out and blew his transfer budget on an Argentinian striker (I forget who) on his behalf!
The reverse of the board accepting a player bid on your behalf
I posted a thread around this same topic or nearly the same a while ago.
I was advocating the expanded use of the Director of Football in the game.
At present the detail is there that club X has a director of football, but what purpose does he serve in the game ?? none really.
Where a club has a DoF their role should be developed in the game to include the identification of potential signings, maybe based on the Managers requirements.
I think its a great idea, provided as Manager you get final say.

I actually disagree with this part, it would be even better if you don't always have the final say. Rather, it would be dependant on the stance of your Board, how much faith they have in you compared to the DoF, etc.
You have a fair point, but in my other thread I got kicked to death for not providing any over ride for people who want to continue micro managing transfers.
I think this could be provided as an option, so you determine to what extent the DoF has a role.
