I'm having a terrible time getting my team to score goals. I have good strikers but they simply don't score and I can only scrape 1-0 victories with penalties and free kicks, even against much weaker teams.

I don't know if it's a problem with tactics (I'm treating my strikers the way I always did, and giving them the same kind of instructions I usually do). I need help, I need to know if there's a way around it, or if it's all down to a flawed match engine. Right now my level of distrust for this game is so high I tend to think that everything that goes wrong is not my fault but the game's.

Just look at this precious latest "feature" I found: having lost in the first leg of the first knock-out round of the UEFA cup by a tough 4-0, I find my board is "happy to see the team is currently on course to reach the second knock-out round of the UEFA cup"...

No comments really. To put it in FM's own terms, "I have lost faith in my manager". I mean, in my game.

Come on somebody, please tell me what you have to do in this game to score goals. I have two games running (one at club level, the other with a national team) and I have the same problem with both. Different players, different tactics, and the same problem. I'm tired of dominating games and not scoring a single goal. There must me something you can do. I'm not new to FM, but I just can't figure out what it is that I must do.

Calm down bud, when you posted it was 4.25am, everyone is probably in there bed at that time. .

Is your game patched up to the latest patch released?
Maybe try giving your team time to gel to get used to 1 tactic instead of changing it all the time, that could be 1 problem.

if you are playing on official patch, try change it to one of the betaas.

I can tell you for the game with the 8.0.1 patch,i dont know if your game is patched or not. A lot of people have problems scoring,me to.what you need to do is lower your mentality ( before i was playing my FC with 18-20 ment. , now max. for home games 16 , away 14. Reduce creative freadom ( i am playing ronaldinho,silva,messi,fernandes on 15 thats max. if you give them more they just shoot from 30m even with longshots on rarely. Reduce your tempo so the players are not rushed into chances. Before i was always playing very att. with a lot CF, and fast , now it's impossible. So basicly you can play like you did before but reduce ewerything. Thats the best i can give you withot knowing what kind of formation,style you play. If you can post some pics ( formation,team instruction,player inst. ) I will be happy to help.

My newcastle team have scored the most goals in the premiership, helping me to a 2nd placed finish in my second season. I've got Owen, Martins and Dean Ashton. I normally play Owen and Ashton, with one of them holding up the ball. Both have often running with ball and forward runs, 75% mentality and CF. Works for me.
I have one of them as a targetman too - supply to feet for Owen, supply to head for Ashton.

Thanks for your suggestions. I am playing with 8.0.1, yes. I will try what you said about lowering tempo and mentality. I don't play at very high tempo but I will slow it down even more. I hadn't thought about lowering mentality, it is not very logic is it?... I mean, if you want to score goals, give your strikers a defensive mentality... Thanks for your help.
