IIRC that feature just adds a chairman with your name(or any name) but you cant control him or do anything.

I found in the "Extras" section of the "Preferences" upon booting up FM2008, an extra you can tick to "make_me_chairman".

I did this before beginning my latest save with Hyde United, but still the same chairman. Wonder if you get an "opportunity" later on in the game or something

I ticked the "Make_Me_Chairman" box in my game also,Im still young in the game and plenty of managing in me , but I think I read somewhere in the forum that maybe further on in your game you can become Chairman ...
Would be cool hopefully someone who know's something about this will reply!!

You CANNOT be chairman in Football Manager 2008, or any previous version of the game.

The make_me_chairman file does not make YOU chairman. It's a file you can use specify any person(s) you may wish to takeover as chairman of clubs that you specify.

Here's a response from Nick at SI about the file: "This is indeed the opportunity to specify any person(s) you may wish to takeover as chairman of clubs that you specify. Locate the make_me_chairman.edt file in your data folder, open it with notepad and follow the instructions within the file. You will need to start a new game for any changes you make to this file to take effect.

It does not link directly to your manager profile."
