A vital question - could turn the "Its too hard" people back onto the game (and thus FM08 too)
I've tried many of the various theories (wwfans are so logical they must be right?) but despite starting many 07 games I keep giving up - unsatisfying & inconsistant results, .....however I always give up after about 10 league games - i just notice several theories suggest it takes 12 - 15 games to "gel". is this true? Would that extra few matches of patience have a fair chance of pleasantly surprising me?
I want to love FM 07 - 08, my faith is dented - save me please!

When you first start the game, the AI doesn't think you have what it takes to be a worthwhile challenge. So any old tactic which is reasonable works well. The AI doesn't try to hard to take you on.
After 10 games or so, if you're still winning and out performing then you become a challenge worth considering. Its around that time that the AI starts to try different things against you to win.
So in a nutshell anyone who thinks their tactic rocks after 3 games isn't preparing himself.

Ouch that doesnt fill me with optimism. Is it no wonder people (mistakenely) think the AI cheats. What you are suggesting is that (as a parable) after 10 games manager X of Fulham has got into 3rd place in the Prem, unbeaten. Ferguson, Mourinho (this works better if you pretend its pre 20th Sept), Rafa, Erikson, Wenger and all the other managers get together in a hotel to decide on tactics to shoot down the new upstart.......

Thats not what rashid1 said at all- he put it very accurately.
You start off the game with no reputation and so the AI manager thinks that he will not have to be too creative to beat you so he over-attacks when you are at home etc and you start off well. Part way throo the season the AI manager will look at your team performance and think that he will have to stop taking your team for granted and change his approach accordingly. Consequently they sit back more and make winning more difficult for you
The example I would use in the number of teams who are promoted from the Championship in England who are in the top half of the premiership at Christamas and just avoid relegation by the end of May.

shoot down is a bit extreme. thing is 10 games is too short a time for anyone to think his tactic is any good. In fact I've often prematurely thought I had a superb tactic only to realise that it had flaws I never expected

Super? The AI? I've seen AIs much more tougher than that...AI's so good, human managers decide to leave the games in their hands cos they do a much better job. That day will come...and I intend to be one of the last few humans to fall to a machine.

Have you seen a sneak preview of "FM2087 - Rise of The Robots" with halftime team software upgrades and the new manager telepathy function?!!
Joking aside, the AI is always fallible somewhere, it's just a case of finding what works, where & when. The game is never too hard per se, it's just complex, takes time to get to grips with, requires trial & error to a certain degree and can be frustrating at times (we all like to win at the end of the day!). Perseverance invariably rewards you with the enjoyment you hope for when you 1st slip the disc in your PC (wistful memories...!)
Personally, I'm just upgrading from FM2005 having not bothered with 06 & 07, so boy am I excited - lots for me to get to grips with!
