It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

I can really relate to the topic creator. In fact I can't understand why I even still play this game in the first place. I can't remember having had a decent FM/CM game for years. For me it's always the same, I do really well until about 10 games in before I start to struggle, constantly losing and drawing games against teams ranked way lower than me. I come here looking for tips and tactics, apply them and do well for another 3 or 4 games (seriously, never longer than that), have hope that I have finally found a way to have some real fun with this but then I start to draw and lose games again. This goes on for about 6 to 18 months in the game, while I'm trying absolutely everything possible to get decent results, before I eventually get sacked. I simply do not understand how there are people that can do well in this game/series. It's by far the hardest series I've ever played of any game that's for sure, and frustratingly enough I still find myself addicted to it. I wish I could just put this game down and forget about it.

I've found them all hard for about 80-100 games then I find a tactic that works for me conistently. The last game was pretty easy after a while, and I stopped playing it because I was winning leagues/cups easily.

It just takes time, patience and a bit of skill to crack the game. The new one will be no different.

For FM to be truly realistic, you should have one of the best four squads in the division to have any chance of winning the league, irrespective of tactics.

Until no tactics guru can outsmart the engine to the extent to which a team with a weak squad can win the league, SI won't have got it right. Until then, it won't be a realistic simulation.

Thats a top point you put across there wwfan and something that we will probably never see.

As it's just a computer game everything is possible with any team regardless.

Aye. In 07 I could win the league with a bottom-half of the table squad, which is still leaps and bounds ahead of winning it with a bunch of nobodies as in previous versions. I would still struggle with a team that should go down, although survival wasn't too problematic. Basically, I could guarantee keeping the Watford 2006-7 vintage top 8 and win the league with Man City.

Still not realism.

I hope its something we do see in the next few years though. Would be awesome knowing that when you picked a bottom 3 side you'd actually have a career game and not win everything within 2 seasons.

Because of the way I play and set up I struggle first year with any top side club but give me someone who has no hope and I can over achieve easily due to them having no pressure on them whatsoever.

Once you win the league on FM its quite easy to maintain winning it without too much real effort. Id love to see teams around me become stronger and challenge me even more after winning. On all my games the top 3 seem to get weaker and weaker and the seasons go by and not really build on anything.

I agree, however if that faraway day came that it was a accurate representation and only the top 4 could realistically win in the game, the downside would be people coming on this forum ranting about how hard the game was.

So you can't really win (no pun intended).

Actually you can win. Irl it takes years (real ones ) to build a good team. Current version of FM (07, but I don't think FM08 would be much different in these terms) allows you to do it in a few virtual seasons, which is a few weeks or a few months real ones depending on your time availability. This game is STRATEGIC simulation. Every strategy implies clear goal, short and long term plans, etc. So, if you want to turn on your PC and in a couple hours be the best team in the world - you are unlikely to win. But if you want to simulate management - develop plan, strategy, understanding of the game, etc. - that is the game.

Yeah..problem is while we talk and ponder about what would be an ideal career fraught with challenges. That's not what the average gamer out there wants. They still want a dream run..problem is not everyone is realistic about their expectations.
