I've been playing football manager for cm 04/05. I've always loved the game, everything about it except the tactical side. Fm07 and now fm08 has seen, in my opinion, a shift from fun loving easy game play to total tactical awareness in order to get the most out of the game. This is where i've always struggled.
I want to continue to play and enjoy the game, but if i don't learn when i've made a tactical mistake and then now what to do about it and in turn, what impact that has on the 2d engine and my players, i will never really enjoy the game and it will put me off it forever and i will have to give up. But before it gets to that stage, it want to feel that i know enough about the tactic side of the game. What i want to know is:-
a) Where do i even start to learn the tactical side of the game?
b)How do i know if it's a bad tactic or just the players i put into that tactic?
c)While watching the match engine, how do the difference between the whole tactic not working or maybe just parts of it are not working and it just need tweaking?
d)and then having the know-how to change things so that i've got my teams playing exactly the way i want to?
Lastly, i can take losing a match. I can even take when i've dominated a team and they win by a lucky goal. What i can't take is feeling helpless and feeling that i can't do anything about it. So i end up using tactics from this forum because it's the only thing i can do.
Sorry for the long post. Advice would be welcome. Thanks

There is a veritable mountain of assistance for making tactics. As one who is still trying to set up a consistent tactical set, my suggestion is this. Go to wwfan's "Tactical Design and Strategy" I think it was first posted on 16.05.07 in this forum.
It is just one of a range of suggestions from the likes of rashidi1, wwfan, Cleon and many others. Good hunting.

ron.e- just keep reading, somebody you'll learn. I myself have been really inspired by rashidi, i've implemented none of his ideas at all whatsoever, but he has inspired me to think for myself and try new things
