His side probably did a pre-season tour of England. That would explain it. His comments are still naiîve though to suggest just because he manages Barcelona that he should win all the time.

Ah, that make sense.

To be honest Dayle, im pretty sure if I used the standard 4-4-2 template and picked the Barca best 11 you would beat all those sides apart from Newcastle easily. He must be doing something very wrong to get beaten by Charlton.

Or maybe because it is pre season his players aren't fit yet and used to the system he is using. The players still might not have gelled yet either.

I always find its harder when using a top side as teams tend to set up more defensive and make it hard for you to break them down.

I've spent all day tweaking and trying out new things. I want to stay with the 4321 system which Barca use irl as that is the formation that is the best for them.

I dont use a DM and set the middle CM to about 4 on the mentality slider and everything else as rarely, just like a CB, and it seems to work reasonably well.

Anyway, all I want is to recreate the real life Barcelona and just think that in FM it's either impossible or too hard to get.
When I say it should be easy, I mean that with not a great deal of tweaking etc, you should be able to put out a 4321 (or 433) with the players they have and because they are THAT good, they SHOULD win must matches and if you set them to play a slow, short passing game, they do it and keep possession more than the opponent - BECAUSE, they are all fantastic passers of the ball...

Why some people flame me for this is beyond me. If you think it's easy to manage Barca and can send me a tactic where your team plays like the real Barca (i.e. has 60/40 possession in nearly every match) fine, send me it, in fact, better still, share it with everyone, because I'm not the only one who feels this way.

And that's exactly my point...
If you are spending time breaking opponents down, YOU have possession, NOT THEM, not 50/50 which is so often the case.

This is what I cannot grasp, why I can seemingly never have consistant, match after match possession, which irl, Barcelona (and Arsenal and many other top teams) seem to have.

Seriously, I watch Barca every game on Sky, home and away, they virtually always dominate possession and have around 60% of the ball, sometimes more.
I want to be able to get that too.

I've started the demo again fresh, same 4321 tactic, teaked and tweaked...

I'm at half time in a friendly at the Camp Nou.
I'm playing Albarcete and I'm winning 4-0.
So, you'd think that I'd be dominating the possession, right?
Especially seeing at they have mustered uip just 2 shots, neither on target....
Well, nope.
I've have 43% to their 57% !!!!!!!!

Where am I going wrong???

The team is playing great, but I just cannot keep the ball!!!

Barca get that high possession only becuz the opponnets play deep and defend with 11 men. They often pass the ball around 10-15 times before making a direct ball forward..
Is slow tempo, short passing not working in FM08?
Will start a game soon wit barca using a tactic like this one;

In part, you are right, but it's also because the players in that team, i.e. Deco, Messi, Ronaldinho, Xavi, Iniesta, Toure etc are all so good at passing and retaining possession, they just don't let the opposition have the ball, even if they wanted to have a right go at them.

Interesting tactic, let me know how you get on.

One of the reasons we dont get high ball possessions is that the AI often timewaste all 90 min.

If anyone flames you infuture hit the report button and a mod will sort it out and take the appropiate action for you. I'm also fed up with people flaming for no apparent reason just because someone asks a question.

I think mentality might be the problem for you, it could be too high for you to play a possession game. Try a lower one and you should keep possession more. Also width can be a issue too, try a more normal approach at first and see if thats better.

You play short passing and a slow tempo dont you? If so that should be fine as it is.

Theres nothing wrong don't judge the possession in friendlies. Lots of people have mentioned they don't have much possession in friendlies but it changes once the season starts. Did you get that far yet?
