Is anyone aware of the use of the Free Role score certain players have as part of their Positions attributes?
It seems the only way to even tell if a player has a decent score in this attribute is if he also has ability as a Striker - that is, a Striker with a Free Role score of 15 or greater is listed as an FC while a Striker with a Free Role score of less than 15 (including a score of zero) is listed as an ST.
Beyond that I'm unaware of any other way of determining a player's ability in the Free Role, or how important that level of ability is when compared with the attributes we naturally think a Free Role player should possess.
For that matter, is there any way to improve a player's ability in the Free Role? If there was I never found it in FM07.
It's a hidden attribute, you can only find out by cheating, otherwise it's just a case of trying players out with a free role and seeing how they respond.

That might be the case for most players but for Strikers it's easy to see if they're strong in the Free Role because their position is listed as Forward Centre instead of Striker.
So why is it just Strikers who openly display their proficiency in the Free Role?

Well obviously. The first position you would think of as being suited to a free role would be an AMC (and hence why there are so many AM/FC's) but of the players who obviously have Free Role proficiency (FC's) and the players that obviously don't (ST's) there isn't any noticeable difference in the attributes that you'd think would determine suitability or lack thereof for the Free Role.
Further, if an ST (little or no ability in the Free Role) is retrained to AMC, his position is listed as AM/FC (yet without any increase in his Free Role ability).
Perhaps you misunderstood me. Some players in their description are labelled 'midfield playmaker'. This alludes to certain attributes being a sufficient level to allow this description.
I don't know exactly which attributes they are but creativity and decisions are probably 2 of them. Not all AMC's are called this.

But is it fact that a player with the description 'midfield playmaker' will (if you were to load of the editor and check) have 15+ in the 'free role' attribute?
