slow pace, short passing, counter attack box ticked
what effect will such orders have on the game?
will the players play a slow, short passing game, in orer to control possessions, but will seize any opportunity to launch a counter attack?

Point taken, but FM doesn't give you enough instructions to play like that.
You would need to be able to tell your FM players to play a slow short passing game, but counter attack quickly/pass directly when the opportunity presents itself.

exactly. theres gotta be a way to do this...
counters are too much important a weapn to be cast aside when you are playing a weaker team at home.

never seen barca scoring on a counter attack?
Barca tend to vary their tempo a bit, and they play a lot of direct passes as well. so it is not a good example.
But in FM terms you should give FWR to everybody except the DCs and the DMC, high creative freedom to most players, free role to your SC, AML and AMR, often through balls to your MCs and wingers often RWB to wingers, direct passing to your MCs to distribute the ball,
Attacking mentality to SC, AML, AMR...
Then, even if your tempo is a bit slow, and passing is shorter, the other settings will make the team pretty dangerous on the ball.
but again, irl barca changes the tempo a lot during a game and plays wide, attacking and quick game with very high creative freedom through balls and FWR.

forget barca. it simply makes sense, imo, that even if you are playing a slow short game, your players will counter in case the other team tried to come forward for an attack and was left exposed in the back...

kolobok- i dont think he has the same enquiry as the person on that conversation.
Angrymofo-, if you want a counter attack per se then you must have a quick tempo. The passing style you choose is down to you but bear in mind that you will need a world class side to pull off short passing with a high tempo. Hope that helped.

You are absolutely right. However, short passing and slow tempo actually make counter attacks less dangerous. You either use the open space quickly or you do not use it at all.
