I had a very succesful tactic in 07 with Valencia. it was based on short, slow passing, and basically defensive.
one thing always bothered me though and no matter what i did i couldnt seem to change it.
looking at the end game stats, most games my strikers rarely touched the ball(based on their number of passes). A lot of the balls up to my front 2 were aerial, and as i had short, quick strikers, they lost most of the headers. I tried numerous things to get them more involved, use target man, supply to feet etc, but the balls in the air to them only continued.
you could play shorten the passing game, as well as focus both flanks.
less through balls for defensive line could help aswell, to maintain possession and not throw the balls up high the moment your players gain control of it.
TTB often - > player tries to make a killer ball everytime he has possession on.
mixed - > when good opprotunity arrives and the player has good decisions then te tries.
rarely - > player plays simple pass to maintain possession of the team ( which is recommanded for DL unless you got very good players there with high decisions, anticipation and passing. )
