It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

How on earth does closing down work? I've read various posts be Rashidi and others on the workings of the new engine. I've tried to implement them with no success.

Case in point, playing last night as Arsenal vs Wigan and also vs Reading (two teams Arsenal should beat). I ended up losing both 1-0, conceding a goal when the opposition was not closed down. Also shots on target/total shots is pathetic. Usually in the region of 3/12.

Now I don't mind losing having dominated a game because that happens but what I can't handle is the lack of closing down. SI provide us with a bar marked closing down with the options of rarely, mixed and always. No matter what I set for my players, there seems to be a forcefield around opposition players whereby they force my defenders to back off repeatedly until they can shoot.

If someone can enlighten me on how to get players to close down the opposition when they are in my half then I would be eternally grateful as I am not enjoying this game which is a first.

SI have admitted to making a mistake with closing down hence there will be a patch coming out very soon after the release date. But for now the minimum closing down suggested for defenders should be mixed or notch 11, combined with tight marking works very well

aaah, thanks very much, thats great. I knew SI wouldn't do something on purpose to annoy us all!

I don't generally get much time to play so when I finally spent 4 hours playing last night and getting nowhere I was understandibly a bit worried that I would never 'get' this version.

I've just resigned for the first time ever, after finding myself bottom of the league with Leicester winnin 0 losing 7 and drawing 5.

My players back off and let the opposition in, when I adjusted things to try and sort it out, things got much better but I just could not score... This game is going to tax me greatly I think.

Would you suggest we put high closing down in the team instructions? I have noticed this quite bad in the game, Can't wait for the patch to come out hopefully in a couple of weeks.

I did this with my Oldham side and lost 5-1 to Leeds at home!

I see,not to be patronizing but im going to ask you several questions regarding this:

1) Was the whole team on mixed closing down?
2) Did you play attacking football? as I consider Leeds to be stronger than Oldham no offense intended
3) When you conceded the first few goals, did you do anything?
4) Was there a pattern? Did goals come from wings?

etc... the list can go on, there isn't a style or tactic that wont crack at one point or another. Sometimes you just have to accept that you've been outclassed.

just got sacked from wolves at the start of december in the relegation zone. Conceding around 2 goals a game average. I guess this might explain it, defenders seemed to back off at all times.

I too am playing as the Wolves. I solved the lack of closing down by setting the back four to tight and man marking, closing down 17, creative freedom 5 and crucially - hard tackling. Seems to have done the trick.
