It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default position training question

I was wondering:
If you can retrain a players' position, why not put all players into new position training?
Or do players stop developing because they are only training a new position?

Some players are not happy learning a new position.

personally, I put everyone into position retraining . Some players do get upset by it, but I don't really notice any detrimental effect to morale or overall training performance. I usually retrain as follows (unless I can see a player would be suited to a particular position):
FB <-> WB
DC -> SW/DM
AM <-> CM <-> DM -> DC
MR/L <-> AR/L -> ST
Slow ST -> AM
Fast ST -> AL if right footed or AR if left footed to improve weaker foot

^ I find it extensive retraining of positions gives me far more options for substituions and tactical switches in a match.

a. not all players respond to retraining especially older players
b. not all players are able to retrain ability wise
c. retraining players runs the risk of their ability in their first position dropping
d. it taked a long time to get a player retrained to a natural ability

All in all, it should be used sparingly.

^c. AFAIK players do not 'forget' positions they know at the start of the game. They do forget positions over time that you have retrained them too, but this happens regardless of any further retraining.
d. it is extremelyy rare (never seen an example but has been posted as possble) to retrain a player's position to natural (20/20). It doesn't take long (~1/2 season) to retrain a young player with average versatility to 14-18/20 (accomplished).
It is possible to retrain even older players with good effect.

Yes, although weaker foot can improve without position retraining, but it does seem to help.
