I am using Man City, just finish 09/10.
I have had the formation shape the same since start of game but have been tweaking the settings until halfway through 08/09.

My team is very strong, with depth, so I dont know how successful this tactic works on a weaker team. However, with my crop of players, I had a good season.

CM's are key to my tactic. They need high defensive capabilities, ability to work in tight spaces (first touch, technique), passing (with decisions and creativity). Their main role is to cover the defence, dictate the play, and provide through balls for AMC and striker.

My wingers have barrows to the striker area - they are to cut in and go for goal, like wat Messi and Ronaldinho do at Barca IRL. Crossing is set at mixed, as is run with ball.

My AMC is the playmaker and only player in team with MUCH creative freedom. Matias Fernandez usually gets in 30 games about 17 goals and 15 assists. Receives many through balls from CM to beat offside traps.

Lone striker can be fast type or tall timber. Target man receives long balls to head down from defenders only when game is not fully under control. When my CMs are in control, game is played on ground with short passes. Receives many through balls from CMs and AMC.

Podolski this season : 25(12) games, 28goals, 6 assists. Asamoah had quiet season but rated well 31games, 16 goals, 8 assists avr rating 7.23. Last season Asamoah had: 44(2) games, 33 goals and 19assists.

I generally enjoy 50-55% possession away from home. Shots on goal average about 15-20, opponents about 3 shots less than me.

Home games are usually lop sided, where I average 55-60% possession and 30+ shots at goal. Opponents will be lucky to get in double digits shots at goal.

Occasionally I get less possession (about 48%), but still have more shots at goal.
