I didn't sell anyone (but I should have sold Dyer, who asked for a transfer about three days after the window closed ) and bought McBride as a back-up striker for 50,000 pounds. I'm playing a basic 4-4-2 with Ameobi and Martins up front and they scored 14 and 18 goals respectively by Christmas. It's pretty realistic so far, with the team losing to all the usual suspects (although they did win 2-0 at Old Trafford for my best result). The Magpies ended December in 8th place and are through to the first knockout round of the UEFA Cup.
As usual, my only real complaint about Newcastle in FM is the awful performance of Given, who is a whiny mediocre player on screen as opposed to the superstar in real life.

Agreed that Given is ridiculously under-rated on the game but I think that's common knowledge now!
I can't understand why so many of you try to offload Dyer though. If you use him as your main AM instead of Emre then I think you'll find he'll be your star performer more often than not! The only problem with him is his enormous wage which I admit is a hassle.
Also, with the teeny-tiny transfer budget it's pretty much impossible to bring in a player capable of walking into the first-team but I found it very useful to buy ageing players as back-up on a year-long contract just to make sure your small squad will be able to cope with the 10-player long injury list you're likely to have before Christmas.
I'd suggest selling Butt to decrease the wage bill by 35K & instead bring in Guardiola on a free. Either way they're gonna be back-up for the skipper. Naybet is another useful free because despite his significant lack of pace he's very good in the challenge. Teddy Sheringham can be acquired for precisely £0 from West Ham & you'll probably find yourself using him more often than not because after you've used him as sub & he's got you a couple of goals you'll see he'll probably warrant a starting place more than Ameobi. Ian Walker, another free, is a useful 3rd-choice keeper. Aliadiere on loan is a useful back-up for Martins. And last but not least, Toon legend Gary Speed is a fantastic buy, despite his age, due to his versatility. He's the only player that costs any money!

| mine's the total opposite. given has been doing very well for me, only concedes 5 goals in 12 games so far. But it could be the strong partnership of taylor and moore in front of him.
but i agree though he's really under rated.

Given being crap? Winning at Old Trafford?
Yeah... very realistic. |

| Did the same with a lot of the squad. I also got Solano, Bramble and few others after the transfer window closed.

Has anyone playing as Newcastle noticed Bramble is way too good!? He's a man of the match winning goal machine in my game.
Quality, but just a tad wrong.

Yes, by the time the demo ended Bramble had only conceded one penalty. He is pretty overrated in FM, I agree.
