How long do most of you wait before accepting job offers in my 3rd year with macclesfield town in division 2 was offered the yeovil job in division 1 but refused, as i feel i have more too offer(at least a promotion). just wondered what the average stay at a lower league club was. Many thanks
I'm currently at Histon in conference south, but there's no way i'll be doing a jimbo and stay there, I fully intend to do well and get to hell out of this league with the first reasonable offr that comes along.
It's a mixture of realism, arrogance and loyalty that does it for me...with a smidgen of "How much of a raise are you offering me?"
I won't move when I've been there less than a season, regardless who offers, and I always ask what the likelihood of (say) Wolves offering an unknown Histon manager the big job is.
The way I do it is I have to have two promotions and no relegations (or three promotions and one relegation, etc.) Before I'll accept a job at a bigger club, and that club has to be only one division higher than my current club. I haven't been offered a realistic national team job yet and I'm not taking one except after at least 5 domestic and 3 continental titles. In other words, never
Must admit the way I do it is just as close to the way I would if it was a real job as possible. Like Iajafer said it isn't exactly a common thing to see a Championship club come in for a manager in the Conference N/S, even if he has won the league with record points and goals.
But if I've been at a club say 4/5 years and the last 3 years or so have been relatively stale with no hint of improvement, I will consider job offers so long as they are realistic.
