Immortal 2008/2009

This is the season everything had to happen. My financial situation was getting very serious and if we were to stay away from bankruptcy we need be promoted. I was also pleased with all aspects except goalkeeping in my squad. Season also started well and after a 9-0 thrashing of Guarda in the cup, that saw 5 of my players get a 10 and 4 a 9, I was very confident for a good season.

During November I was served a touchline ban for thrashing a referee. The bad news was that the next game was against a higher league side in the cup. The good news was that we won 4-1.

I was second after the first 13 games, 3 points behind the league leaders, Casa Pia, a team which won me with 2 goals in the 90th minute. However all 4 players in my backline decided to get injured in during Christmas missing the first games after the break.

Even with injuries my team was playing superbly and with 4 games to go I was 6 points ahead but had games left against the 3rd, 4th and 5th placed teams. However with the other teams also losing points, 1 win, 2 draws and a loss was enough for me to win the league by 4 points, breaking the record by one point. So now I had to move to the 4 winning teams division to battle for 2 promotion spots.

Much to my frustration I got 2 away games and only one home game. First game was against Sanjoanense. In a game I dominated they managed to score a goal with a 40 yard screamer. I pushed even more forward and it wasn’t until the second half where I got a penalty that we drew level. The two other teams also had a 1-1 draw so tension was growing. Next game was against rivals Louletano, a team I had never won. This was however my home game and a game I had to win. After a good but goalless first half my team turned up the pace and we won 3-0. Varzim also had 4 points before the last game, where I only needed a draw to win this playoff league also. A very uninspiring performance from both sides ended with a draw. I won the league!!!

Finances were still very bad though, even though I dropped 20 players over the season. And making only a 12.000 pound profit was really bad seeing how the board injected more than 500.000 pounds during the season.

My team got an award for being overachievers and one of my purchases was selected second best.

Immortal 2007/2008

A pretty solid side lacking only few players to make it very good, only the goalkeepers being probably the worst you can find. All 4 of them.

Board and fans were expecting a relegation battle but media were predicting a strong top half finish. My hopes were pretty much the same as the media this time. Had a strong start and was battling pretty hard in the top of the league. It looked like I had the two best strikers in the league also, one scoring about 1 goal per game and setting up a goal in every other game, while my other striker was scoring about 2 goals per game. My only problem was wingers and goalkeeper. I was also losing money by the minute and some cash injections were needed to keep the club going. I then held a sale on players to cut down on the wages.

And getting a goalkeeping coach was next to impossible.

I was in with a shout to the end of season when 5 of my key players picked up injuries that ruled them out for the season and my only left winger was out four 6-10 months. Guess it’s better to stay down that going up this year because of I got no proper cover for my key players and because of my financial status.

Gunnilse/Campinense 2006/2007

Started out unemployed and got a job at Gunnilse in the Swedish second division. They were second at the time 1 point behind the table leaders. Things went up and down with a squad I really didn’t like. Managed to maintain the second position but decided to go somewhere else. 3 months later I got a job with Campinense in the Brazilian third division. They probably had the oldest squad ever, with an average age of 32 and the youngest player being 28. He was also the only player under 30. I went out and got myself a few younger players to strengthen the squad. When the first part of season started we were ready. Drew the first game against my arch rivals and then went on a 6 game winning streak. I ended up wining the opening in the competition but I had no idea what that meant. I then went on a 3 game drawing streak followed by a 4 game losing streak. I then won the next game 7-0 before going on another losing streak where I lost the rest of my games. My players were also very found of kicking other stuff than footballs which got me a total of 6 red cards in a 18 game season.

I figured out that winning the opening stage gave me a place in the final, against my arch rivals. I lost on penalties after a 4-4 agg.

I also hated Campinense just like Gunnilse so I quit again. I then got offered the job at Immortal in the Portuguese second division at the end of the season.

Immortal 2009/2010

It looked like this could be a very hard season. I managed to sign 3 very promising players that already had the ability to play key roles. We had a good run in the first few games before having a very bad spell. Things then evened out and we stayed mid-table for most of the season and we were never really threatened by relegation. Main problem was scoring goals but I also decided pre-season to go for a more defensive formation so I wouldn’t have all that much of a problem holding my place in the league. My top striker from last two years decided two seasons with 20 goals+ was enough and didn’t score a single goal until the second to last game. I then lost the last game and ended 9th.

The cup was a disaster as I lost my only cup game against a team from the same league in a very tight game.

Finances were better but I was still losing money but now only about 100k per season. I managed to get an unemployed applicant for my goalkeeping coach advertisement that had been running for 2 and a half season now. He sucked very hard. A complete makeover in the backroom staff is needed badly also. Because of the current financial situation also, the board has decided that I shall only be able to sign players for 1 year and with a limit in salary at 75 pounds. Seeing how I only have 4 players on longer than 1 year contracts, contract renewals and signing will be really hard. I love this. What a challenge.

In a strange coincidence two Liga de Honra teams played the cup finals. And Liga de Honra is the second highest league and my current league. And the cup winners were the side that was promoted last year with me. A real shock.

That's odd, nowhere in here is there any mention of your assistant winning a football team.

Immortal 2009/2010

What a season and a really good one although team had a hard time after Christmas. We were always in the fight for promotion and by Christmas we were 5 points ahead. However a series of losses and draw sent us down to 5 place but only 4 points from 2nd place and promotion. The second placed team, Aves, then had a huge drop of form and ended 5th. 5 games to go we were 3rd 2 points ahead of Feirense but after losing to them we went down to 4th place 3 points behind Aves. Aves then dropped out of the fight and only we and Feirense were left. They won the next two games but lost the third while we won all 3. We then got slaughtered but Feirense only managed to draw. Before the last game of the season we were1 point ahead of Feirense. However we lost the last game but Feirense only managed to draw their last game tying us but we won them 3-0 away were promoted on results between teams.

Finances were better with a 220k profit but that includes 500k of board injections. The board then gave me and 425k transfer budget which I though was way too much seeing that we are a whopping 200k down.

We were then selected overachievers at the end of the season.
