Well I've started again with around 25 leagues (Playable). Newest Patch.
Large Database.
I'll post again in a while with more details to say how it's going!... for those who might be interested.
On another note. Can anyone see any point in the running the Read-Only version of leagues? I believe that this doesn't make all the players from that league available... so what's the point??

By read-only, do you mean non-playable?
I don't see the point in it at all. Only load the leagues you're prepared to play in

Usually I load two regions in Europe (when playing in Europe).
Now I changed a bit, and I've chosen nations I haven't managed in FM2007, and have at least 3 tiers. England, Sweden, Norway, Italy, Portugal, Spain with all leagues loaded.

Currently I'm running a game with *all* leagues fully loaded. Let's just say I'm a very patient person.

Although actually I'd also include playable leagues if I want to be able to scout and buy players from there....

In my European game, the view only leagues I've picked so it's not constantly the same teams from these nations competing in the Champions League and UEFA Cup. They have to get there on merit.

I normally decide on the country i'm going to manage in and just include that one as playable and large database.
If i'm managing in England i'll retain players from Scotland, Italy, Spain, Holland, Germany, Spain and France. It only helps if I can manage to get my Conf N/S team up a few divisions as none of them are interested anyway.
In games where I just want to stay in the non-league i'll only select Scotland, Wales, Ireland and N Ireland.
Hopefully if I get a half decent PC before FM 08 is out, i'll then play with a number of playable leagues.

Retaining nation's players causes an imbalance of players' nationality in those nations favour.
Whilst it isn't against LLM rules or ethics per se, it is something you should use with a great deal of caution.
