Default It's not a long way... Down the A12, off at Brentwood!

First time I’ve posted, used to visit and read a lot of the threads – apologies in advance!

I started unemployed as I fancied a holiday, returned in the summer of ’08 with one offer waiting for me –
Billericay.
I almost felt guilty for taking what I feel, from glancing over the forum, is Mr. McDonald’s spiritual home, but there were no other offers and I wanted to see if I could do as good (or bad, as the case was…)

2008-2009
I inherited a squad of players who seemed to have no interest in playing football. A striker with finishing of 2 and aggression of ten times that implies if this was real life I’d be down the local magistrates more often than the players lounge. Does Billericay even have a players lounge?!?
Fortunately for me I was both carp in the cups as well as the league. A promising start of a win and four draws set us in good stead but all that early season promise was eradicated after a humiliating defeat at a team that had scored zero goals in their first four games…
Dagger.
The season improved to mediocre, with my criminal striker scoring 3 in 3 before being sent off for trying to disembowel a former Leicester centre back.
Eventually the season finished as unimaginatively as it began, with a final league finish of 15th showing that I clearly lack any skill as a manager.

Final assessment – Billericay are rubbish, the board are tight, next season will be a race to get sacked I feel…

2009-2010
Fourteen players out, five in. two actually look like they would wow the Lodge crowd –especially with attributes of such quality as dribbling – 10. The crowds are holding their breath…
I also signed a new centre back duo on recommendations of my soon to retire scout; one towering over 6ft, one scraping 5ft.

Sadly, the season started with promise. Anticipation then got the better of us, and by Christmas we suffered our lowest point in my short spell as a boss;
We lost 5-0. To Chelmsford. At home. And they had a player sent off after ten minutes.

I’m surprised the locals didn’t cut my arms and legs off. However, we soon got back to old times, losing late goals, and drawing 0-0. We finished 14th, an improvement I feel. Cups are rubbish.

Final assessment – Billericay are rubbish, the board are tight, miracle not sacked. My star player (an average of 7.11 over two seasons, a combined total assists of 20! :thup was sold to the American team in Lincolnshire for a tidy sum. Hope for next season?

2010-2011
New scout was amazing. I signed a formal QPR-Loanee who promptly revolutionized the team gave me hope – we could get promoted, I could get a raise!
By March we were in the playoffs. Even the former inmate on the IOW had improved his strike rate; we were a force to be reckoned with! Except in cups where we were Schmidt, obviously.
Eventually we sneaked the playoffs. However I do not wish to talk about such a traumatic time… we’ve all been there, 2-0 up, coasting, one hand on the cup…
Fair play to Sutton United.

Final assessment QPR’s released-reserves are top notch; the board are tight, aggressive striker leaves to the heady heights of AFC Telford. But next season is the one, I’m beginning to think the future of the team rests solely in one player…

Should probably ask Nobby that.

Other than that, WHS.

Good update, why can't all new threads be well written and interesting as this? Can never have too many Billericay updates, although whether Nobster agrees is another matter. Seems a lot of potential here for a long tale, KUTGW

Brilliantly, Billericay has a comedy club.
How fantastic is that?!

Thankyou for the words of encouragement - I have completed 2 more seasons, my insomnia is put to use!

Billericay Town do indeed have a comedy club, monthly if I recall correctly.

And the board are anything but tight. They've given me a good few million pounds over my eight seasons on 07... to keep the club running!

Good opening update James. The resident Billericay llama approves.
(Bet you don't get an international rastaman though.

2011-12

One comment from Nobby and I receive a cash boost at the start of the 2011 season. How much influence does this man have?!? Thankyou for the words of encouragement, this is extremely rewarding!

The season actually started extremely well. A series of high profile friendlies against St. Joseph’s girl’s school and a local women’s institute bought as many as 4 fans – and just as many goals. Shame about the 4 conceded…

Luckily, the aforementioned scout had discovered two rough gems. Each former Suffolk-club players, my gleaming new striker and centre back – both with high goalkeeper rating (I’m thinking Sunderland’s Irish Chairman putting on the gloves that time) – were giving me and the media hope that this could be the year.

Skipping to December, we were sitting second, with no injuries, and the first signing costing more than 10k on his way.
Eventually, we finished second – oh what a feeling! Sod you Chelmsford, where are you now eh.
Sadly the centre back had a commanding season and a minimum fee release meant he was on his way t’up North.

Final assessment Promotion fees good. Aggressive striker leaves Telford to join Chelmsford, the scumbags. I’m worried about next season as my squad is threadbare to say the least!
The 2012 Euro’s were won by Denmark, defeating Sweden in the final – England out in the semis after 20! Shots on target! Chelmsford went down.

Ever thought of taking a job at Billericay's monthly comedy club?
