Having enjoyed reading the delights (and disasters) of previous LLMs on this forum I decided it was about time I tried my hand at lifting a club from the depths of English football. I’d played countless times as lower league clubs but never using the strict rules of LLM, I mean how hard could it be?!?!
I started jobless and accepted the first team that came knocking… the mighty YEADING!
YEADING 2006-07 Conference South
Wow… that was bloody tough!! After a few adverts and I had increased my staff by a 2nd scout to help in the search for freebies. With a board expectation of avoid relegation and no cash to spend it was always going to be a long season. A good start to the season saw my Yeading team sitting comfortably above the relegation fight but an injury to my only scoring striker resulted in a gradual slip nearer and nearer to relegation. A few welcome additions in defence (eventually found by the busy scouts) helped to secure the points to finish in a pretty respectable position for my first season in charge! A few more free summer signings left me feeling a lot happier with my 1st eleven, featuring a new keeper, a centre mid, and a striker. I had major problems trying to offload unwanted players on crippling wages so left them in the reserves and as my squad size grew, blissfully ignoring cries from the board to lower my wage budget! A similar mid-table start as the previous season and I was anticipating the inevitable slip into trouble, fortunately it never materialized and a late surge of 5 wins on the trot left Yeading finishing an agonizing 6th, just outside the playoffs by goal difference. Only a marginal improvement in cup form did not contribute to an increasingly stretched wallet. Next season was going to be do or die in the form of bankruptcy! Pos 6th W19 D9 L14 F58 A47 Pts 66

I decided to go for it and just keep adding to my already large family of Yeading players in the hope that the gamble would pay off. A few expiring contracts of deadwood players allowed me to momentarily reduce the wage bill only to restore it to the inflated value with addition of two experienced yet high demanding defenders. The season started off average but the experienced players quickly gelled with the eager youngsters with explosive results! Yeading powered their way to the Conference South title decimating all in their wake, including a 10 match winning streak with a 7-0 drubbing of Bedford Town. Fans player of the season and top striker bagged an impressive 30 goals in 32 games. An excellent FA Trophy cup run ending in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Stevenage also eased the mounting debt making all my financial wishes come true. Conference National…. Here we come!! YEADING 2009-10 Conference National
Still no transfer budget had materialized but I didn’t feel the need for it anyway. Promotion had vastly improved Yeading finances allowing for an increase in wage budget which accommodated the two more free signings. A mass ending of staff contracts, bar a few, meant many an hour anxiously awaiting news from the job centre. By the end of my recruitment drive the staff payroll had grown to: 1 Asst Man, 4 coaches, 1 GK coach, 1 fitness coach, 2 physios and 2 scouts (I don’t like to be lonely in the coffee break room!). The Conference started off a doddle….. Yeading sitting pretty at the top of the table after 8 games gone. Things began to get a little harder from then on and I slowly fell off the pace and slipped out of the cups, but held a firm grip on a playoff place. Then with 10 games to go disaster struck! The whole team self-destructed: 3 own goals, 7 injuries, 6 red cards, and the complete inability to shoot left Yeading without a win for the remainder of the season and falling to 12th in the table. A good position for my first crack at the Conference but disappointing considering the great start I had. Still never mind, with extra experience we’ll be looking forward to next season!
