Making up topic titles was never something I was good at
Well, started off my first game in FM 2006 on the releasedate and despite of all the cursing at the ^%#@ing game, deciding I wouldn't play it for months until at least the 6.0.4 patch (yes, 6.0.2 comes next) was released and getting very very frustrated, I managed to finish 3 seasons \o/
The team I decided to manage this time was FC Emmen, my hometown team. Yes, I know them well, but playing them in FM is quite different to the way it's run IRL.
Season 2005/6, First Division
Quick screening of the squad, seeing the wagebill way too high it was not an easy decision to let some of the better players go. Sold off some of the big earners, signed some freebees and the season went underway. The boadr wanted me to improve the sqaud, all I wanted to do was stay in the black, play some nice games and finish in some midtable obscurity.
We started off badly, staying in the bottom for the first 15 games. Then we slowly climbed up the ranks and with just 8 games to go we found ourself in 2nd place. We dropped back to 7th, but managed to get into the play-offs thanks to winning a period (there are 6 periods, every one is based on 6 games, winners qualify for play-offs). Managed to scrape 3 points (3x 1-1) from 6 games, so stayed bottom in the play-off group (winner gets promoted to Prem.Div.).
Brought in 6 new guys for 0 euro, sold/released 6 for a total of 2.4m euro. Board wanted midtable, my goal was play-offs to get some extra gatereceipts. Wagebudget was almost under control now.
Season started off very well, topped the table untill the winterbreak when we, after winning the 3th period, finished last in the 4th period and Sparta took 1st place. It stayed that way until the last match of the season. Sparta was 2 points in front of us, we had an "easy" match against a lowflyer, Sparta faced an awaytrip to the nr 5. We won, they scored a 90th minute equaliser, but we took the title due to a better goaldifference (3 goals better )
Nothing wrong with your home town team! infact assuming they fall within the boundaries of the Llama Parish it is ideal, as IRL a rookie manager would most likely get their break with their home town team.

Obviously, board wanted to stay clear of relegation. To do that I brought in 12 players (190k) and released 10 (70k).
Started off with a win, after that I dropped faster then a 10000 pound rock to the bottom of the league and stayed there the rest of the season. We never got going, if we managed to scrape some points, it would cost us either a good player or we'd faced a big club who would trash us.
Only good thing was the board deciding to offer me a new contract for 3 seasons and willing to pay me 12 times the salary I had (it's now 9500 weekly, it was 800). Knowing I was going to relegate no matter what I decided to renegotiate it down to 1 season.
