Sorry, that's the best pun I could come up with Version: FM2005 with latest patch, all playable UK & Ireland leagues loaded. Season 2004/5 - Margate Conference South
Board - Promotion
Fans - Promotion
Me - Who am I to argue? Promotion it is then.
Took me a little while (5 months) to realise that for this season Margate were actually playing at Dover's ground!
Strengthened the side pre-season with players available for nowt that my scout spotted on his travels, included ex Leeds GK who quickly became first choice and 26 yo Irish MC player coach, who I signed more for his off field skills than his playing ability. My scout also recommended a Villa AM RLC and Arsenal DMC that were available for loan so I snapped them up too. End result:
Pos 1st W 26 D 11 L 5 F 88 A 44 Pts 89
FA Cup 3QR (0-0, 0-4 to Team Bath)
FA Trophy 2R (2-2, 3-3p to Runcorn FC Halton)
POY - 31 goal striker
Ave attendance - 534
High - Promotion
Low - the abject performance that saw us exit the FA Cup

Rep Power: 0 | Season 2005/6 - Margate Conference National
Board - Stay clear of relegation
Fans - Battle bravely against relegation
Me - Somewhere around mid table should be achievable.
We moved back to Margate at the start of the season so attendances should pick up, hopefully - at least that was what the board tell me, but they are a pack of lying bar stewards. Started the season by adding to the defence with a couple of signings for a total of £4k, and re-signed the two loan deals I had last season.
I left with the club in 12th, having exited the FA Cup at R1 (1-1, 1-4 to Rushden & Diamonds) Season 2005/6 - Wycombe Wanderers, League 2
I joined with the side out of all the cup competitions but riding high in 4th; however a quick check at the finances showed them to be £450k in the red, which I hadn't expected. Further digging showed this to mainly stem from the £240k paid to Margate to secure my services. The board expected a respectable league position; with the team in 4th I hoped for promotion but, with the finances as they were, decided that it wouldn't be a disaster if we stopped down for another year. A slump shortly after I joined saw us as low as 9th and 13 points off the automatic spots; however a tactical change coupled with a couple of loan signings saw us click into gear and make up lost ground; with 2 games left we were 2nd on goal difference with 3 teams on the same points and another team a point back (Swansea walked the division). We lost the last 2 to ensure we'd go into the playoffs to play Chesterfield - who we had racked up two 3-0 wins over in the league.
Pos 5th W 26 D 10 L 13 F 75 A 48 Pts 79
Play offs - SF (2-2, 3-6 to Chesterfield; having drawn the 1st leg I was confident for the 2nd; however it wasn't to be as the most astonishing FM game I have ever witnessed saw us thumped at home in front of a record crowd; Chesterfield took the lead but we hit back to lead 2-1 coming up to half time, Chesterfield then scored twice in stoppage time to go 3-2 up on the night. I pushed men forward in the hope of scoring but it left us exposed at the back and Chesterfield raced into a 6-2 lead; we pulled a goal back but it was too little too late. To add insult to injury we finished the game with 7 men after 4 players were sent off for 2 bookings)
FA Cup N/A
League Cup N/A
LDV N/A
POY 18 goal Scottish striker
Ave attendance 3875
High - getting up to 2nd. I really thought we could do it.
Low - losing the last 2 and blowing automatic promotion. Oh, and getting violated in the POSF 2nd leg wasn't nice either.
Other points of note – Margate won their second promotion in a row, finishing 4th in the Conference and winning in the play-offs. Have I made a mistake in leaving them?

Board - respectable position
Fans - respectable league position
Me - following on from last year's disappointment, I expected us to be there or thereabouts in the chase for automatic promotion; the bookies agreed as we were made joint favourites for the title.
We were held back by our record in front of goal; if we conceded first we always looked likely to lose the game. Part of this was because I sold my star SC to Swindon for £350k; however we needed the money and he was out of contract at the end of the season anyway. I used the funds to bring in two DMC’s, an MC, a DL, an SC and a GK. Perhaps a decent SC would have been a better idea….. we finished 4 points off the play offs.
Pos 8th W 18 D 14 L 14 F 49 A 49 Pts 68
FA Cup: 3rd round (0-6 at Arsenal – the gate money helped sooth the pain at least)
League Cup: 1st Round (0-2 at Huddersfield)
LDV Vans: 2nd Round (2-3 at Bournemouth; we somehow got a bye through the 1st round)
Ave attendance 4276
High – Arsenal in the Cup. Yes we were tanked but it boosted the finances. I might even have some cash to spend next year :o
Low – the general inability to score and therefore win. I genuinely thought we’d go up this year.
Other points of note – I was offered three jobs in L1 and the Bohemians job, all of which I turned down, mainly through pig-headedness. Margate returned to the Conference after just one season in the League.

I once gave a beggar who was sitting there and claimed he was a poor Russian who was lost, a subway ticket to the main station.
I think I know enough Russian to understand that he told me to screw my mother.

I once got into a drunken argument with a large, fairly mean looking Russian after they played Wales in football. They cheated the whole [censored] game, even to the point whether they were taking long shots while Paul Jones lay injured fannies :thdn:
Its a good job he didnt stick one on me though, I may be a big buy, but i'm not remotely violent, nor do I know how! :gheyer:
