Why should managers who choose to play as a lower league club have to also play to the LLM rules?. Personally I always choose a team from the lowest league but I don't bother with putting constraints on myself as to where I can scout or if this player would really really come to me in real life.
Saying that I have no tips as there aren't any must buy players out there, just fill your team with free transfers and consider stats of around ten to be good and be prepared for it to take 20 seasons to get to the very top.
I hate those LLM'ers, some of them are just snobbish about their special way of playing, a moderator had a go at me once just because I frequented boards other than just the LLM, like I was cheating on the board or something, been irratating me for 6 months now that.

Maybe the mod had a go at you because you didn't adhere to rules and guidelines that are specific to the LLM-forum?
Most LLaMa's don't have a problem with people not adhering to 'our' rules/guidelines in their games. The problem is in the fact that people come onto the LLM-forum without any regards of the forum-rules.

Powermonger, how dare you come on here and ask for advice. Honestly, why cant you play for yourself? In fact, you better not have even glimpsed at the game manual either because obviously that would be getting someone else to tell you how to play too!
Seriously, what is the problem with someone coming on here and asking advice? It's the whole point of the community. Have you not noticed how often a manager makes a comment about speaking to other managers when signing players or deciding what job to take? It goes on in real life so it seems pretty reasonable that all the FM players can communicate.
I think secretly all these snobbish LLMs that criticise you for askign for advice actually look for tips themselves, then have a go at you just so people wont think that's why they're reading the thread!
Back on topic, parent clubs will always be vital to success in LLM. Dont just bid for players on loan, bid for any youngster in their reserves that will improve your team!

I'm currently playing as Gateshead so here are my top LLM tips (some may have been posted already):
1 - Get rid of any youth and reserve players you don't need. Money's going to be very tight so you need to just have a small squad if you're going to keep your head above water financially.
2 - Arrange as any home pre-season friendlies with premiership/championship teams as you can. It doesn't matter if you end up playing one every 2 days. Just play you're grey players in a few and watch the money roll in.
3 - Don't worry about youth development or trying to improve your players attributes. Your facilities are so bad and your players are probably only part time anyway, so they're not going to improve. Look for players who've already got the attributes you want and don't waste wage money on too many coaches.
4 - Try and get a parent club if you can.
5 - Do whatever it takes to keep moral up. That means that even if you lose try and sympathise with the team or tell them it was a good effort.
6 - Try and get a fast striker. You'll be amazed the difference a fast striker can make in the lower leagues, doesn't even matter if his finishings not too great.
7 - Use trials, especially if you've got player attribute masking enabled. Bring a load of players in on trial, it costs you nothing, you get to see any attributes you couldn't see before and it gives your coaches the chance to give them the once over.
8 - And the most important tip is be ready for the long haul. It may take you a fair few seasons in each league before you get promoted, but you will get there. You might even go straight back down again at some point. But stick with it because when you finally take that team that you've moulded and shaped since they were a semi-professional bunch of no-body's to the Premier League, it'll be so much better than any other save you've played.

Currently on the Road To Premiership with Vauxhall Motors, At the moment in League 2 and romping.
Try and have some good coaches
Stick within budgets
Free Transfers are the key to glory use them wisely
Have kept same tactics for 3 years, will get maulled some matches then maul other teams
I have no reserve squad but have 18 first team players, my U19's never get renewed contracts and all often get terminated
Once you reach the League 2 there is a BIG gap in quality, so budget wisely when going into this divison, this could make or break you club and sign quality players for your divisons, scout reports are ofter poor, your decision making is crucial in every aspect of you club
Have patience, its a huge key to success

My Northwich vics setup was 15 full time players (includinf four free londs) and a 'reserve' side of part timers and decent kids.
Don't enter the Reserve League because you get beaten every week, just arrange a few friendlies through the season.
And don't be scared of signing guys well into their 30s.
One of my best signings was a 35 year old defender. Totally anchored my back line and also tutored my best young centre back who was able to slot right in when needed.

Nicknames ftw!
If you're (like me) very familiar with a certain team, let's say Liverpool, Set nicknames for your LLM squad after them. It makes remembering who's who way easier.
For example rename your best striker Torres, your goalie Reina, your 3rd choice CB Hyypiä etc etc

My advice - spend a LONG time searching for free transfers. I don't mean 5 or 10 minutes.
Search "expired contracts" in each position. Click on every player you see (might be as many as 2000). See what your assistant manager says about the player (not worth it, decent, good).
Snap up the "good" ones. These are worth their weight in gold. Not many of em around.
Also, I know you wanna take a tiny team to the Prem, but I don't see this as being realistic obviously. Don't be afraid to take on a job at a better club. Work you way up. I started at Workington, but the last thing I wanted to do was take them through the divisions. One promotion and I was out of there. Job done. Next club please.

| Lol. Ney!
It's not hard to remember a few players names after a couple of weeks. Do you play the game with your eyes closed?
