I've had a mixed bag of results. More often then not, my penalty takers score. Although my game last night was quite interesting.
From the penalty kick, the 'keeper saved it. On the rebound, he saved it again. After the ball came back to my MC, he had a wide open net. He shoots, and no he doesn't score. The shot gets blocked by a defender.
Was the most intense thing that has happened to me in a long time in FM.
i miss a good few peno's. but my biggest problem is if i dont set the penalty takers (or none of them are on the field) why cant the game be set that the player with the higher penalty taking stats will step up, instead of my right back with a penalty stat of 11
once i forgot to set it and my young RB (jordan collins) went to take the kick, with composure 8, finishing 3 and penalty of 4!! Keeper saved it easily and they scored from the counter!
nowadays won't even leave that option empty anymore. Though i did ask my GK with an option of 10 to try once, and he scored!
for me my team either score them all or miss them all in a shoot out and in normal pens is ok i guess. Sometimes however i will get a really gd penalty taker who misses abot 80% of pens which is pretty poor.
The thing that really sucks is when you see your guys, with 15-20 ratings, lose a penalty shootout to the other team who only have 8-12. Whats that about
Players individual confidence(in my experience at least) does seem to have an affect on taking penalties, thus how a top side can lose a shoot out to a lower league side.
I had a Spurs game, was doing terribly in the league AND had just failed to defeat Barnsley in the cup. Is it really surprising I lost the penalty shoot out? My team morale was shot to hell!
Generally though I think too many penalties are missed, whether it be my side or the AI's. I don't think the game is biased against the human manager.
