So Fabio Capello is the new England manager, and is expected to lead us to the promised land.
But we've been here so many times. For me the problem has never been with the manager, but the fact that the England players are the most overrated in the world.
If it all goes wrong again, and we hound Capello out in a few years time like we do every other manager, will we finally wake up and try looking for the real reasons for our problems?
Like the fact that half the England squad aren't good enough play regularly for their clubs?
Thing is, they are. They prove that week in, week out. Stick them in an England shirt and all the passion drains out of them.
As for nothing changing...Capello is apparently the sort to drop players if they don't perform, regardless of who they are. He is also used to a screaming media, having managed Real Madrid and their ilk, where the manager's actions are scrutinized every bit as much as the England gaffer's.
Have to admit though that I am sitting on the fence this time. Should be interesting if nothing else. If Gerrard and his like are binned for not putting the effort in, it might just wake them up. Too many were allowed to get into the international comfort zone.
I think Sad Git may be referring to players like Defoe, Crouch, Bent etc who get in the England squad but are not first choice for their clubs.
I agree that this is a massive problem for England. If they don't play for their clubs how can the manager possibly decide if they are good enough, in form or fit enough to play for their country?
I just hope he finally fully understands that lampard and gerrard cannot play in the middle together, and i feel he would have no hesitation to drop either one.
I've always said that maybe england arent as great as we always seem to believe.
When i look past the top 16 english players, i don't see that many players who could be considered as good international players.
Capello is a tactical genius and he is perfect for the England job, even if he is overpaid with 6.5 million a year.
I was reading an interview with Claudio Ranieri and he described him best; he picks players that can actually play together. It's sounds simple but obviously not since England's terrible form in recent years.
I wouldn't be surprised if several "star" players are dropped from the national side and new young hungry chaps are put in who deserve to be. The majority of the players in the current squad that the usual starters are way overrated. Lampard is someone who should be dropped immediately in my opinion.
I have no doubts in Capello and I believe he will bring success to England as soon as possible.
I personally think the english media has something to do with the failure.
The media in the UK is by far the harshest in the world, and this DOES put pressure on the players to perform and sometimes they try too hard and end up getting nothing out of the game.
Anyways.........i am a big fan of capello and has been since he was at milan. He is a master tactician and he dosent care if you are a superstar or a regular player. He picks the players the way he wants to build his team and if this means dropping a few stars as they dont fit into his side then so be it.
I agree that there are a few over rates english players who only look good when they are surrounded by good players, put me in a man utd shirt and stick me on the park surrounded by giggs, hargreaves and scholes and i bet i wouldnt look too bad!!!
The only sad thing about this is that it takes an overseas person to coach the english side and i wonder if he has the passion like all english managers have.
eg. when big sven was manager and they played Australia he made 11 subs at halftime and England lost the game. I doubt he knew the rivalry between these two nations in sport and he should have fielded a top notch side to beat the aussies. I hope capello has more passion than the swede had.

You're spot on about the English press. They are a disgrace. Hopefully they'll leave Capello alone to do his job.
As for a foreign coach coaching the England team, I have no problem with that. All the English managers are not good enough and lack experience. I don't think the players have respect for them either. Plus, other nations have foreign coaches managing their national sides.
When England played the Aussies it was only a friendly and Sven never seemed too bothered with them. His record in friendlies was appalling. However, his record in competitive games was excellent. Fingers crossed Capello can exceed that.
