I personally think the english media has something to do with the failure.
If the so-called experts babble about "would have won it if we qualified" and "no players from this other team would stand a chance as starters in our team", then you can clearly see it's not just the media.

There's something that makes everybody believe they're at the top of the game long before the game has even started - maybe it's that good old "home of football" thing. In reality one just HAS to wonder how anybody could jump to such conclusions. Well, except maybe Brazil. But not even them.

In football you have to PROVE time and time again that you are top, and not assume you're already there. As a German I think England doesn't have bad players per se, really, it's just that seeing themselves as some kind of elite squad is total ********, period.

Lower league management is not just about finances, that is essentially the chairman's job anyway. It's still about tactical knowledge and picking the right team.

Where else do you want a future England manager to start? It doesn't exactly seem to work out when they are thrown straight into Premiership management. They tend to get sacked quite quickly!
but surely the theory of putting an average manager with a good manager got dis-proved with McLaren i dont think you can say that if he spends time with him he will become better english managers need to establish their trade in the premiership not just be chucked in with a world class manager in hope he picks up something
