I highly doubt shearer will be no.2
Paulo Maldini is the fv for that spot as he has been capello`s right hand man on previous occasions.

I cant see why the no2 would be Shearer either.

Capello needs someone he can speak to and bearing in mind he doesnt speak great English, and I doubt Shearers linguistics are up to much!

Here's an article suggesting why Capello's appointment won't work for England:

http://www.theworldgame.com.au/home/...=st&cid=101833

A pretty interesting read actually. Still I think the FA should have gone with an Englishmen and there's plenty of quality to select from.

I don't know... sure Capello wins trophies but the football he plays isn't great on the eye and pretty ugly to watch.

Regarding the Aussie game, weren't we down 2 or 3-0 with the so-called 'big guns' on the pitch before the sweeping changes at half-time? Franny Jeffers with his one and only England goal in his one and only England game.

Franny Jeffers- coming to a Championship ground near you!

im unsure myself on this. sum1 said, national sides are about nations competing against nations... and honestly, i would much prefer an englishman & staff at the helm... but if we now go on to actually win sumthing (god forbid), no englishman will b complaining

Like?

Id prefer an English manager but we dont have anyone with any pedigree.

Alan Curbishley and Harry Redknapp havent had any success whatsoever.

Fabio Capello has never taken over England in my game; Real life is unrealistic and unplayable!

On a serious note, I'd be all for someone like Ray Wilkins being involved, good coaching knowledge and has spent enough time in Italy to be able to translate for Capello. A more unpopular choice would be David Platt, again can translate for Capello as he spent enough time in Italy. He's not exactly a tactical genious, but he's a respected footballer and Capello is there for the tactical knowledge.

Other shouts for the backroom staff would obviously be Zola or Vialli, both have spent enough time in England to communicate with the players and would be able to work well with Capello as well.

Yes, the English press is an embarrassment to the Nation. A few afters after the announcement that Capello is to be made manager, the News of the World were already trying to dig up dirt on him (I do freelance journalism work sometimes, and this is one of the things they've been placing orders for).

I really don't understand why people aren't embarrassed by this kind of behaviour. What kind of hospitality do the English subscribe to if their idea of welcoming someone to the job is to smear them on the front pages of a daily rag the moment they arrive in the country. Most countries would be absolutely ecstatic at having managed to secure such a high profile appointment, especially after the nations recent no-show in qualifying.

Hell, that's the reason none of the top candidates would even touch the job last time. Surely it's in everyone's interest to get the best man for the job - and Capello surely has the necessary credentials. Last time we ended up with McClown due to the bundling media scaring off any worthwhile candidates.

Capello has a proven track record getting the most out of players - winning league titles in his first seasons using other manager's players at virtually every club he's been to. And he won't take any slack from the prima donnas.

None of the English managers even come close in quality - and if McClown was the best of a bad bunch last time, do we really want the next English manager in the FA's pecking order?

I was surprised at how the FA bungled the whole appointment last time, when there were obviously going to be much better candidates available after the world cup was over (Hiddink and Scolari have vastly superior track records to any English manager, and have proved themselves on an international scale).

It'd be great if there were a suitable English candidate, but if a jammy run to the UEFA cup is the best the English can offer, I think it's sensible to get someone in who's actually won something. 9 (I think) league titles over 16 seasons + Champion League victories can't be argued with.

Capello can hopefully bring that elusive extra that has plagued England's team for years: a manager who can actually get the players to play to their full potential, and not bottle it the minute plan A fails. England have looked so out of their depth once they have gone behind in the past, and I'm sure it's a psychological issue more than anything else. Capello will suffer none of it, and that's exactly what we need.

And to top it all off, he actually wants the job. Either a masochist or a die-hard football fanatic (or both), but either way I think that instead of getting on his back, we should give him a chance to do his job. I'd be surprised if he didn't manage to get England to qualify for the next major tournament - and that's currently what I think the "fan's expectations" should be. Anything more would be a big bonus!

I think with Capello England should do much better, but without a better GK it's going to be difficult.

According to the press, a term of Capello's appointment is that he can appoint all of his own backroom, from Italy. The FA has stipulated there needs to be 1 Englishman on the coaching staff. Unsure where this report originated from.
