absolute joke, the match engine is totally opponent biased, si sort it out
i am southend in season six and suffering either the worst luck in fm history or a biased match engine.
we all know about the stupidly ridiculous shots to goals ratio which has allowed me as southend with perfectly good players to have more possession, shots and shots on target in 26 out of 36 matches in season 5. How many of these games did i win? only 10!!!! and i lost 9 of these games in i dominated and the rest drawn.
i am using sound tactics which got me 119 points when in league 2 and my players are awesome e.g saivet, aissati, banega, cahais, kerlon, ratinho, sosnis, weidenfeller
i ask if you're gonna give me so many shots and domination why on earth do i lose so much?
because the creaters of the patch have forgotten how to do their job. in previous games this hasn't been a problem so why is the game getting worse?.
i love fm but it is so much less enjoyable when your strikers couldn't hit a barn door and then the opposition get one shot and it goes in.
the people from si will most probably ignore this because they won't respond well to my tone, but for a game i love it is really sad to see it getting worse by the year when surely with the increase in resources and technology it should be getting better.
shame on you si

i started a new arsenal game yesterday, and won my first 3 games with 85 minute winners. out of about 25 shots on average. totally annoys me when players miss open goals etc, but after a while my training started to show. the ratio is far better now.
but i had to laugh when i beat man utd 2-1 with only 4 shots on target. rooney put about 7 shots well wide and ronaldo missed an open goal. at least the AI knows how to bum itself aswell.
i must point out that this was a problem in 07, just not as bad.

I like your post. No, really. I do...
Aw, heck with it. I'm lying. Angry rants don't hold much weight with me. And I'm gonna reply to any post I d@mn well please.
I just lost to West Ham when 1-2 with 16 shots, 13 on and they had 10 shots, 2 on. Yes, it happens. Too much compared to RL. But I'm playing a game, I'm not playing real life. You want real life? Get off your duff and go kick a ball.
Here my suggestion ... wait until you're less angry to post. Maybe your posts can be more constructive rather than destructive.

i just love how people say that the the goal to shot ratio problem also happens irl.
this is why in rl liverpool, man u, chelsea and arsenal dominate games at home but only win about half those games!.
this happens far to much on the game when you consider irl the top four very rarely lose games at home how by dominiating possesion and having more shots.

My games fail just because SI uses english premiership as a model , in most of the championships the underdogs don't stand a chance , they can beat you a couple of times or get 3-4 draws in a season but thats as far as it gets ; the english model that anyone can beat anyone is just a unique case (is? maybe was).
Good players can win the games for you even if your tactics suck , at least in national level. Last year my favorite club had won the championship by February and everybody was booing them for playing crap ( yet winning all games against underdogs) .
Let me give you an example , it is Porto vs Amadora 3 days before a Champions league game , Porto will use half of their starters play conservative for 30' score two goals and then relax and think of the incoming European match, thats how things are in 99% of the championships .

I think the real problem thats getting on everyones backs is not that too many shots are being made, but that players of the game are dominating games with their tactics but not being rewarded for doing so. Thats the most frustrating thing.
Some people say its your tactics but I think thats a very limited response. Very few actually give a response longer than 'reduce your long shots' and its not helpful. To be honest I have done all that has been recommended and still I have only had a couple of games where I score more than one or two flukey rebounds off the goalkeeper. As for Long Shots, I think its a bit stupid actually having them in the game if they're not going to work at all.
When Huntelaar is one on one with the goalkeeper of Slough 10 times in a game and misses all of those chances I do not think there is a problem with my tactics. Team talk maybe, but I have done a run where I try all the different talks and that has done nothing. My conclusions are that the match day engine is seriously flawed; some people don't think it is and thats fine, and to an extent i'm sure finding the perfect tactic will in slightly improve the situation. I think for myself though i'll probably abuse the AI by giving a ludicrously good team in the Blue Square North and work my way up to the Premiership, hopefully by which time a new patch with a reliable match day engine will have been constructed.
