It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default How to play well away from home?

I had this problem in 07 and it's continued into 2008. I am terrible away, getting beat 4-0 by teams in the relegation zone is not fun.

I'm playing as forest green in the conference but it really applies to any time I play (outside of the big boys).

I'm currently 6th with half the season played. I have the 3rd best home record in the league, but 14th based on away form.

I know away you get less of the ball, but I seem to often get totally dominated by teams I really should be beating. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm sorry if these tips are things you have already tried but i like to keep things simple with tactics.

Try to give your defenders low creative freedom.
Reduce forward runs for your full backs.
Put a defensive midfielder in there.
Play narrower away from home.
Play a defensive formation. (5-4-1) for example.
Set passing to direct, tempo to quick and aim your passing at your target mans feet or head (depends on size) Tell him to hold the ball up.
Tick counter attack if you want to remain dangerous on the break.
I often select specific man marking for my full backs and wingers.(for example if playing Man Utd. Set winger and full back to mark Ronaldo, doubleing up as such.)

I hope these tips help you out. Please let us know how you get on. There are some people much better at tactics than me on here who could probably help if you keep your thread at the top.

Best of luck mate

reasonably defensive, I change it around depending on how things are going. when I concede I'd be more inclined to start attack a little more.

thx WH, that helped. I kept my 442 but put the pace up, gave my fullbacks barrows, narrow width, counter attack.

Beat Halifax and Torquay away (beat Torquay in the 94th minute har har) Two teams ABOVE me.

Will continue see how I do.

if your going to play a narrow formation you should play through the middle and not down the wings.
