I have just started a new game on FM 2008 with Exeter City, and i open the season against Weymouth.

But, despite being a much better team than them, i cant beat them...no matter what tactics or team i use.

I have played the game like 50 times over using every different combination imaginable.

Is the game really this ridiculous hard and tedious, or am i just being retarded?

Any input is appreciated, including abuse

I've been playing as Torquay an no matter what I do, I can't seem to beat anyone. I have a much better team, and have tried 100's of different tactics. I find my self shouting at the screen because my players aren't closing down when I have them on highest setting for both closing down and tackling. Match engine needs a bit of a re-think.

Well, i am thankful i am not the only person having so much trouble.

Whenever my team get the ball, the opposition close me down ridiculously fast, and when my guy is clean through with only the goalie to beat, he always stops and lets the defensive line get back in front of him...this happens whatever tactics i select.

Having exactly the same problems. At first I thought it was because I was being a crap lowly conference team so tried a few premiership teams and the same happened. The rest of the game is mucg improved and I love the new features but when the match engine don't work, the whole game falls apart, well for me anyway.

odd really, i find that the match engine is fine, im playing as derby in the prem and i think the engine is much improved.

Players do seem to randomly stand still when in possesion, and the closing down is a well documented bug.

In the risk of getting laughed at I have to say that the match engine is the worst since 2D was introduced :thdn: :thdn:

I wouldn't say it was the worst but the closing down thing is very annoying to say the least. Also it may have something to do with us all being used to the fully patched and fine tuned FM 2007 engine.

I am a first time player of the FM series.

I have only ever played LMA before, and as you may know, that game is very forgiving with tactics.

I still however find the match engine very tiresome.

I could understand if i had ridiculous tactics and a crap formation, or if the opponent was just better than me, but nothing i do seems to make a difference.

I wouldn't mind if i could have some impact and still lost, at least then i would have some control over my teams performance.

Im not trying to find excuses but Im unsatisfied with the match engine too. But when I first started (with Man Utd), the first game in the premiership I lost, then drew and then I didnt lose for about 20 matches. I went from a low of 17th to 1st.

My point is maybe your players need to get used to the tactics, try them for a few matches, they might start winning.

I used a 4-4-2 diamond formation and I used it for most of the season.
