My point is maybe your players need to get used to the tactics, try them for a few matches, they might start winning.

I used a 4-4-2 diamond formation and I used it for most of the season.
Using ManUtd as an example doesn't really count. A team with world-class defenders, seriously strong attackers etc will not really have any major problems with these bugs, sometimes they will appear but most of the time their talent will kick in..

One thing that anoyed me in the FM07 engine aswell as FM08 was players seeming to lack common sense on the pitch. For example, a defender could have easily cut out a pass but because I had low closing down he just let it pass right by him. Its happened quite alot to me all over the pitch so maybe some kind of common sense attribute could be added to override user set commands.

Common sense would indeed be very useful.

Because if you set your tactics to close down often, then you always leave somebody wide open, and if you back off, then as you say, your defenders watch the ball roll past...and if you try and find a happy medium, they just do both!

Quite honestly, i dont see how some of these bugs can even be realistically fixed, without adding new statistcal categories, such as common sense.

I see what you mean but he said that he used premiership teams and the problem continued.

I also think trying the tactic for more games should work for any team, you cant just make a tactic and expect it to work straight away.

First off what sort of morale does your team start with? Starting with a team with low morale makes winning any friendlies difficult, especially in the lower leagues where the grey players tend to rip you apart.

I started about 6-7 games with Ebbsfleet before I found a half decent tactic, generally I lost every friendly against teams in the leagues below me that I wasn't running, often conceding 6-7 goals (the teams only decent goalkeeper starts the game injured). I had better results playing against Championship level opposition, at least I was able to score against them.

Things either get better when you actually start the season or a lot worse as recovering the lost morale is very hard. The closing down is a problem especially in midfield, but I get more annoyed about the team backing out of challenging for "50:50" balls maybe that is part of the closing down problem.
