Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Clean Sheet - Mission Impossible?

I am playing as Arsenal, and i am struggling to win a game, let alone keep a clean sheet. its ridiculous, losing 3-0 at home to sunderland as well as other shocking results. is there any tips on how to actally make FM more realistic, in terms of actually winning a game once in a while? (ive played FM from back when it was CM, so i have no issues with how the game works etc)

i play a 442 with gilberto as a defensive minded mid and fab the attacking minded one. my back line consists of clichy, toure, gallas and sagna, so how im conceding all these goals is beyond me! ive tried the back line pushed up, deep, man marking, zonal, tinkered with the mentalities, adjusted the closing down....and nothing!

thanks JE for the advice on your tactic. i will check it out. however surely there must be a way to not concede so many goals without resorting to someone elses tactics for goodness sake!

I find manmarking + very low closing down works quite well, with arsenal I'd recomend a short sluggish passing game in combination with the man-marking for quite good results.

play with this formation, it works for me as Arsenal

---------GK---------

DR----DC----DC----DL

---------DM---------

------CM----CM------

AMR--------------AML

--------ST---------

arrows from the AM's to the ST role, arrows to the WB for the D R+L, and have the DM going into CB.

For me it helps playing two DM's in front of 2 DC's, only conceded 5 goals in 15 matches (with Chelsea, ok, but Arsenal is a big team to, of course). Check my tactic and leave some feedback when you try it:

I've been getting plenty of 0-0 with Notts County - using Enigma or Pudsey's tactics. Can't score though!
