“DU” – Another tactic that works! (For me –again-)
“DU” – Another tactic that works! (For me –again-)
Ok everyone, sorry for the delay but I wanted to make sure this was as good as it could be when I posted it online. This is the “Defensive” tactic I have been working on, after finding that once the AI teams get used to your old tactic, or once you had been promoted – your old tactic didn’t seem to work anymore (unless you’re a top team like AC Milan or something).
I have put the word Defensive in quote marks because it’s not really defensive. It’s just an alternative to the attacking formations that sometimes fail when you have used them, since, like, forever ;-)
Ok so this is the BETA version of the tactic. It’s BETA because I would like people to test it out and give feedback so that I can improve it further if needed I feel that this tactic isn’t “mine” but more like everyone’s who has contributed to it on the forums. So if you have a good idea or tweak, let me know and I’ll upload a newer and better version
There is a lot of writing here that will help you succeed if you read but if you just want the tactic then scroll to the bottom of the post lol.

Tactic: DU
Formation: 2-2-1-2-1-2
Strengths: You should be able to avoid huge defeats against the harder teams – and even stand a chance of drawing or winning.
Weaknesses: Without a good keeper, you’ll need a VERY good defence if you wish to keep goals against you to a minimum.
Key man: AMC, ML and MR – If they have a high creativity level then you’ll have many chances against the opposition keeper thanks to their superb through balls!
What to tweak for my team: I have found that one really cool aspect about this tactic and my first one is that they can be used well together. You can check this out in my thread “A random match – How I go about it”. Also check out the “Frequently Shouting These Out?” section below on the easiest way to fix problems that your team face when playing with this tactic.
FSTO Section (Frequently shouting these out)
Do you every find yourself shouting things out at your players due to frustration at their mortal-like ability? Long for the god-like powers of the 60’s Brazilian team? Then this section is for you! (If you’re using this “DU” tactic that is ;-)
“My DL and DR are like turtles compared to the opposition’s cheetah-like strikers!”
This might happen against some of the opposing teams who have a lot of attacking midfielders in their tactic. What you need to do is make sure your team plays wide and faster, not too fast but doing this will help counter the attacks.
“My strikers have many chances but don’t seem to score a lot!”
The best thing (I find) that helps avoid this is a) making your strikers swap positions b) having them hold up play when they receive the ball and c) reducing their longs shots if you haven’t already. It’s a difficult area and it really requires you studying your strikers and finding out about key stats such as form, composure and finishing, in fact it might require you to make the AMC a ST instead.
And finally – here is the download for the tactic! Don’t forget to comment on it here!
